| Megapath Home Solution ?
Right now Megapath is the only place that is offering me Broadband DSL based on my distance from the CO. I am just over the maximum distance for BellSouth FastAccess internet. I am also the last phone line on the loop to be serviced from said CO and i doubt if i will ever be able to be serviced from BellSouth or any other DSL provider unless they can increase the distances.
I am also in doubt to what the final prices would be with Megapath. I have yet to be quoted a final price for installation, and from what i can gather, their cheapest service is ADSL starting at 99.00 a month ?
Finally i am seeing information where Megapath is not very interested in residential services , and I have become wary of them at the amount of bad posts on this site and other sites regarding their service.
If anyone can throw out some information regarding Megapath please do, as i am unsure if i should purchase broadband thru them for home use. |

| I have had Megapath homeoffice IDSL and ADSL service for 2 years now, after some frustration on install timing, I have been very pleased with the service and support. Very reliable, and tech support is great. Long hold time though. I have no issue commending Megapath for residential home office service. |

They are not the cheapest, but are rock-solid reliable. I have had my connection with them for about 4 years. Very satisfied. |

| reply to rip_sketches Starting now, until the end of March, it seems that Megapath is offering cheaper rates on thier services. The rates i was emailed are:
ADSL (in SBC territory only): · $59.95 - 4M x 384k · $49.95 - 384k x 128k · $64.95 - 768k x 128k · $74.95 - 1.5M x 128k · Free Activation and Free Router (after mail-in rebate) with 2 year contract
Their pricing seems a bit skewed. And yes thats 4 Megabit! on the first price listed. I assume that is only avail if you are within a very short distance of the C.O.
I am still see-sawing between waiting out Bellsouth to put in their CO or going with Megapath. Right now i am out of Bellsouth's range on a further away CO but they are going to be putting one in close to my house, eventually, as i can tell by the amount of subdivides going up around my property.
If i go with Megapath. I definitly KNOW i won't qualify for the 4Mb service. Since that is really distance limited. So thats out. And 1.5Mb is priced outrageously. I also know after a certain distance that Megapath will put people on a "Safe" type "lower than advertised" connect. And so if i go for the 1.5Mb service i am too far away to achieve that, my best bet for now seems to be to go with the slower and "expensively compared" 384k service. It might be a nice placeholder until BS gets off their butts and get a closer CO out here. And it would serve the purpose of getting me out of dialup land. At that price it(384k)is still expensive for what it is.
And my final thing is this, I don't want a 2year contract, I also don't need a router nor modem, already had BS Fastaccess for 2 years, got the equip already. So i don't know how much more that will skew the end pricing for me.
Since requesting information from them back in October, other than some rude sales emails, and i mean RUDE, this is the first actual current price list i have seen for Megapath. |
