1 edit | Comcast Bandwidth Abuse Suspensions--Part II
Please keep discussions about bandwidth abuse suspensions, and about notifications from Comcast about such suspensions in this thread for the time being. For the sake of simplicity, we will endeavor to keep the thread at a reasonable size, lock it a start a new one if it gets unwieldy.
If your topic has a truly new spin, feel free to start a new topic. But if your new topic is another re-hash of the same basic discussions, expect that it will be locked in order to keep the discussion in one place... -- Why must I feel like that? Why must I chase the cat? Nothin' but the dog in me. |

It might be kind of risky to provide a link (I don't want to encourage further discussion in these topics), but I feel compelled to provide a recap of "Part I", for anyone who wants to get "caught up". |

Just wondering if anyone's gotten the letter for using around 6GB a month?
Even though TechTV's stream is no more (boo ), there are other streams that I like to watch and listen to that could eat up my unknown limit. Add to that a winter from heck and my VPN connection will also add to my usage. -- Recall Bush Dean For America

I highly highly doubt you'll get a letter for 6gb a month... -- Forum Posts:3504 |

If you have kept up with recent posts,I think you will have noticed that more and more people are getting letters.. (its now VERY clear that this is NO LONGER a issue that just applies to "a handful of users")
From what you know (or assume) is the amount of letters being sent out still "very very small" as you have stated in the past?,or do you now agree that Comcast is "spreading the net wider" as I predicted at least two months ago??.....
Just interested if you think things have changed at all,as clearly they have.... |

Net still has not been spread wider. It is still confined to the top users in each system. I 'm not saying this is any official amount etc but since everyone is so hyped on knowing and are making guesses anyway I personally know of 2 letters sent this past month..One user has been using between 70-85 gig a month...every month...in just download. the other was fluctuating between 75-100 per month...every month
I'm emphasizing every month because it is my honest belief that any user intent on using almost 100gig a month every month needs to find a true business provider -- Forum Posts:3504 |

Running count is around ~70 people on this forum, the top google search for comcast suspension is that thread, do the math. There is no clear indication of how many letters are going out based on that thread.

Many thanks for your swift reply..
At least we know know (or maybe we don't ) that the lower limit appears to be 60gig a month, but maybe you can "stretch" that if you don't do the same EVERY month in a out..
After I got my 1st letter in Aug , I used 70gig the next month , and then 66 the month after , and received no further letter , so i guess its pretty safe to assume what you are saying is indeed correct.
It would be really interesting if I used 100 gig next month to see if I get suspended or would Comcast "reset the counter" being as I have had FIVE months of "NOT BE A ABUSER"? , would love to find out , but doubt I have the guts to test their system as DSL is NOT a option to me , so I have to be a "good boy" for the time being..
Ref 100 gig needing a business account -think its time for you to get into the "real world" esp with Blockbuster's online rental stuff going live soon, when that happens will you update your figure to 150 gig a month? , just interested? , as surly you know / understand that content is just getting larger and larger by the day , not smaller... |

Agreed , but also if you "do the math" more and more people are coming to the forum each day saying they had a received a letter, than did a few months ago when I first got mine.Surly if FIVE months ago "only a few letter have been sent out" this number has grown and grown over the past FIVE months? , or does my "simple logic/common sense" math not add up???
Plus I would have thought that the percentage of "letter getters" that actually post here is VERY small compared to the amount that have actually received them? , or again is my math / common sense not too good? |

You're assuming that anyone using 100gb a month is using this for a business purpose? If so, you are wrong. If you are suggesting that reguardless of usage type, they should seek a business provider, I think this is also flawed logic. (In my opinion) |

| reply to teddystacker Teddy, the recent letter-receipients are probably as overwhelmed by a 90+ page forum as I was when I had to catch up with just 20some pages to start posting. I think it's fair to say they are lurking and catching up to the current page, or realize enuff people have posted the "I just got one today" post, and are avoiding redundacy. |

5 months ago the top google "I feel lucky" hit for comcast suspension was not that thread.
everyone who gets suspended who uses the most popular search engine to research their suspension is led directly to that thread, this obviously clouds any conclusions on letter reciever numbers one tries to draw from said thread. |

The ever-growing list of suspension letters shows that Comcast is tightening the noose more each month. My first one came last month and I expect to get another any day now. Funny thing is, my D/L habits haven't changed a bit since the letters first started showing up back in - what - August?
As they prune their users, more and more of us fall into CC's category of abusers. Before long anybody doing more than checking email and web browsing will be labeled unwanted.
I really hope this bites CC in the a**, no company deserves it more. Sleazy cable companies haven't changed in the last 20 years, they're the lowest form of business there is. |

@ajax25
Totally agree with you.I mean am I really going to get a business account just to stay in touch with my family in the UK - I think not,as you say ajax Flawed logic indeed..If I were using my connection for business use, then fair enough, but just because people are using large amounts of b/w does not mean they should have a business account, any one that suggests such ,is just not in touch with the real world of the net in 2004..
- i will say yet again, the people that make/support these rules have very little idea how people use the net this days - back to the "its just a new fangled toy" issue discussed about 200 pages of posts ago
Also if if i did sign up for a Comcast business account, the same rules apply to b/w use,so it would be pointless anyway.. |

Look, these letters have nothing to do with "how to use the net" or with comcast managements interpritation of "how to use the net"
I will say it once more for posterity, the limit is based on an AVERAGE, that means what you should be complaining about is how the average person dosent know how to "use the net"
Streaming media, downloadablke movies, they are ALL bandwidth intensive, and as they become more prevalent the average useage will go up! The people getting letters are using grossly more than everyone else, to the point where they alone are causing network issues for their neighbors at worst. Comcast management didnt just pull a number from their behinds, so stop making it sound like they dont z"understand" how the net is used.
Cause if you are using 100-1000 times more than EVERYONE else and they have access to the same high bandwidth content as you, dosent that tell you soemthing about how YOU "know how to use the net"?
PS: by you I mean someone who got a letter not you personally teddy |

@av8ndv8
Well Said indeed,EXACTLY what I predicted back in Aug 2003 on these very forums..
I am amazed that even FIVE months later, some people are still trying to pretend that this only applies to a "few people" and only "the very heavy users" - 70-100 gig user is NEVER a "very heavy user" by todays standards..
so lets look at the facts..
A few months ago Qumahlin and others were saying this applied to people "d/l 100's of gigs a month on a very regular basis" , now FIVE month later were are only talking 70-100 gig a month NOT "100's".. - my how things have changed..
I think the facts speak for themselves to anyone with a ounce of sense... |

Actually, MEDIAN not AVERAGE. There is a big difference. The rest of the quote above doesn't even make any sense. I don't see any reason to complain to average users and if we did somehow get them to use more (so the average or media went up) then it would cause even more problems for comcast and ultimately everyone else. |

I believe the average user is rapidly learning how to use broadband, which is really the core of the issue here. if 3 of 5.3 million users go from using less than 1GB/mo. to using 3-7 GB/mo a sacrificial scape-goat must be found. The ones that have the power to "experience 100% Pure Broadband" are the goat. |
