Do you really want to know which tool most "boosted up security [for the] average joe using computers and the internet", which tool was most useful to the readers of this forum (non-average joes, for sure!) or which was the best tool that the readers of this forum added to their toolbox in 2003?

| Re: What was the best free security tool in 2003? Good point, osmethnee. The people who post on this board are way more knowledgeable that the "average joe", and the tools they see as necessary are probably completely unknown to the everyday computer owner.
As an average "jane", I'd have to say the eTrust offer, because it gave me a complete suite of protection that took absolutely no brains to set up. For the average person who has minimal knowledge of AV and FW issues, something that's going to give them the most coverage that they're probably ever going to put on their computer anyway, winds up protecting the rest of us. Since it's all in one suite, they don't have to go searching around for separate programs.
Spyware and adware, while annoying, don't really harm anything. The average person, speaking from observations of family and friends, have absolutely no idea what they are and wouldn't know what to put on their systems to eliminate them. But they have heard of computer viruses and know that they should do "something" to protect their computer.
Too many people out there still have the expired AV program that came with their computer, have never updated the definitions, and still think that they are protected. That might be a problem with eTrust when the free year expires, but hopefully by that time they'll be more aware of the dangers to their computer. Personally, I put free AV & FW programs on my parents' computer and set them to auto-update because I know they'll never remember to either renew or update.  | |

I need ZA free. It's the best firewall. Not interested in kerio, it looks to convoluted compared to ZA. I don't like NIS, it is weak protection IMO. I don't like Sygate, it needs NDIS to run, and I got cracked using it over and over again.
I need Process guard free. To guard ZA free.
I need AVG anti virus free. It's resident is simpler then Avast anti virus IMO. And it's scanner is WAY faster then NAV IMO.
On a side note. I don't see much people using Process guard free. Do you ? And why don't u. It's free.
