Well, I finally got it running on the DeskPro. The problem turned out to be something funky with either the second network card or its drivers. I started with a clean hard drive, installed 98 with no peripheral cards, then put in the network card for my DSL modem and got RASPPPoE functional. When I added the second network card, installing its drivers turned into endless requests for the RASPPPoE drivers and network card drivers. Something wasn't cooperating. I grabbed another network card I had laying around, its drivers installed and I'm back in business.

FYI, I had removed the second network card during my previous attempts but I'm sure its drivers were still lurking.

Did what you suggested. Now when I run RASPPPOE, I get Tapisrv error has occurred. TAPISRV caused a GPF in module WAN.TSP. After I close that, "No Dial-Up Devices Found" shows up.

I think I'm going to move on to another computer.

alright
first of all Wmexe is a process that is for US robotics products, I assume that you have a US robotics device installed on ur system.

This is what i would do in your situation:

.)Uninstall RASPPPOE
.)now restart
.)go in the properties tab of the network and delete every single thing u see in there.
.)now restart
.)Then install the dial up networking by going to the add windows component wizard make sure to use ur "windows 98 cd" when it asks u for files, don't just type the pathname.
.)Let the installation complete and then restart.
.)Install RASPPPOE and restart.
.)It should work fine now.

The only problem that could be is the drivers from the old network card u had. Those could be confliciting with the card you put in now.

Anyways, hope that works.

I’ve been running RASPPPoE for just under a year. Unfortunately, the computer I’ve been using has been having mechanical troubles so I need to move to another machine.

This computer is running 98SE. I moved the network card I was using for RASPPPoE in the old machine to this one. I loaded the Win98 fix from Microsoft. I downloaded the current RASPPPoE zip file. I loaded the RASPPPoE protocol with no problems. When I tried to set up the dial-up connection, I got the dreaded “No Dial-Up Devices Found.”

I have deleted and reinstalled the Dial Up Adapter. I have reinstalled Win98 (twice). I have installed the network card driver from the manufacturer (replacing the one that came with Win98). I have installed the protocol with and without the DSL modem plugged into the network card. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the network card. I’ve tried more things than I can remember (I’ve been at this for two days).

The computer has very little software on it. CTRL-ALT-DEL brings up only two processes, Explorer and Wmexe (I don't know what Wmexe does). During this installation, I usually kill Wmexe as soon as the computer boots up.

Computer is a Compaq DeskPro 2000, Pentium 133 with 72 meg memory. Network card is a Dlink 220pct

Anyone have some more suggestions?

I remember having similar problems when I first used RASPPPoE but thanks to threads here, I got that first install going. I'm not having the same luck this time.
