| Wireless in XP is truly wireless - constant failur

In the last few weeks I have been having a problem connecting to my wireless network (D-Link DWL-900AP+) from my Sony Vaio PCG-VX88. I get the indication that I am connected (I'm up against the WAP) with excellent signal, the WAP logs indicate I'm connected, my TCP/IP is static, but when I run an ifconfig I get no IP address. I suspect it may be the on-board wireless. I can connect through a direct wire-based connection.
All my other systems have no problems.
Thanks..... |

| What internal card is in the Sony?
Are you running MAC address filtering? If yes, have you added the MAC address of your internal card?
Are you using WEP encryption? Which flavor? 64, 128, or trying Dlinks 256? Are you typing in the HEX code or trying the passphrase? |

I am running MAC filtering. My wireless log does show that the MAC is connected. I have tried running with and without WEP in all 3 modes with the same result. I have even set it to no WEP, but the results are all the same.... I'm not sure what the internal card is but it looks like it was manufactured by Lucent Technologies and is connected internally on a Texas Instrument PCI 1410 CardBus Controller.
The interesting part is when I click on the network icon and select the support side, I get no IP address, nothing at all. |

OK ---- I solved it... By reading other threads in this group I discovered that a lot of problems were resolved by removing the device and then re-installing. I did this and now everything works...Makes you wonder about Windows XP.... |

No, but it reinforces the notions I already had. Seriously, thanks for posting the fix. It may help someone else. -- And now, this week's #1 FAQ ... How can I boost my range? |
