Re: CWShredder Update 1.46.3

Glad I read the thread, I've been scrambling trying to find this variant with every app at my disposal and everything comes up clean.

I guess I do a fresh install like Skipdawg mentioned.

Strange stuff going on with those getting the trojan popup. Do you guys get this popup every time you run CWS or only the first time after updating it?
Sorry dp, missed your query until now. With me it only happens when I open the new version for the first time; after clicking OK and getting rid of the message, I run Shredder in 'Fix' mode and it performs normally reporting my system clean. Subsequent scans and checks for updates also perform normally.

Hello,

"Till more info comes out I've removed the App and will do a fresh install of Update 1.46.4 or the next update and see what happens."

Well, I did that...and no Trojan Alert window, but still doesn't explain why before these two updates, the window never appeared when I overwrote the exe file.

Also, don't you mean 1.46.3?

Or is there yet another update?

May be, couldn't get to the update site this evening:

Current version: CWShredder v1.46.3
Connecting...
Fetching CWShredder update information...
Unable to retrieve CWShredder update information.

Very buggy, Mr.CWShredder, a response would be great.

Ok,
Merijn has been very busy with the new variant. They upped the stakes this time around ALOT. As soon as he gets it all straightened out the new version will be up. This new variant Tries to close shredder, HJT, Spybot and a few others. There are some other nasty things it does.

The trojan warning appears when CWShredder has been shut down incorrectly last time, i.e. not use top-right cross or 'Exit' button.

Delete HKCU\Software\CWShredder regvalue and see if that helps.

There is a version of CWS that is now keying on window titles to close certain fix programs, websites (brute force killing IE...not a pretty sight), even killing explorer when opening the folder containing shredder.

The warning and random text are in response to this...and as merijn said will show up if Shredder is incorrectly closed down...

So, if you know you are clean and that you have no CWS infestation then there is nothing to worry about.

Shredder is not meant to be a daily run item anyway. It is like Stinger...meant to be used to take out a specific group of problems. It is not a regular use scanner.
