Out of the current 1800 some students there, maybe 70 are black. When I graduated in '88, we had 1600 students and 6 were black. Knowing the mentality of that area, I could easily see this as a prank gone bad...

Sounds similar to the statistics from my highschool. Although I graduated in '90. But that is pretty pathetic on the school administrations part for punishing the kid that was supposed to be a recipient of the award! -- Browsing with Mozilla Firebird 0.7 |

The editorial at USC hit the nail on the head, especially when the writer quoted King's "Dream" speech.
The ChronWatch article is good too.
I feel for the kids. I think they were trying to make a political statement, and it backfired on them. I'd be interested to hear what the black students at that school have to say, but apparently the school has issued a gag order. Have to wonder how they think they're going to silence a kid away from school though.

What's the big deal? After all, he was born of African parents IN South Africa. Maybe it's just another genetic condition like Michael Jackson has? :0 -- Using Cox Business Services (Rock "N" Roll) |

| reply to skeebercat This whole African American award thing is sick. It's doesn't matter what color you are, either you graduate or you don't. If you graduate you get no more, and no less, recognition than anyone else. That's how it should be.
When I was in high school, there were clubs made specifically for minorities. I can understand a chess club and photography club, but to form a club for black or Hispanic people? WTF? I wish a white student would have started a Caucasian club just to see what would have happened. Equal rights my ass. We are now facing reverse racism. -- I am the beginning. I am the end. I am forever, and I will continue to exist long after everything, even hope itself, has been destroyed. |

Kinda sounds like unless you are a Black African you ain't a real African. -- Everything is relative and subjective. |
