Call for Front Page News

Working on an article to update all DC news on the front page, so anything ya got, put it here.

With apologies to Digibits See Profile who submitted an excellent effort back in December, parts of that will be in the new article, with specific reference to the WALL.

Current team standings, number of new members in a certain period, Foldinator news .... all welcome, but I'd like to get it done today, if possible.

Many thanks good citizens of Team Helix.

Here is some input Capt ...

The Folding@Home project of Standford University has been busy lately. Vijay S Pande and his associates have recently published several papers based on Folding@Home computation. This brings their total to 14 published papers from FAH computation.

Of their recent published research, the one in Nature Structural Biology is a surprising result on the fundamental nature of protein structure and the paper in Physical Review Letters sets the stage for a new way to perform computational drug design which the Stanford team is now further developing and applying.

The Stanford work to simulate protein folding is directed to examine folding related disease. It is advancements in this area that we in Team Helix hope will lead to cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's.

The members of Team Helix celebrated the third anniversary of the founding of their team on December 26, 2003. Over the years Team Helix has had over 1100 members crunch for them. Today there are over 250 active members that contribute an average of 20,000 WU's per day!

The Foldinator Project of Team Helix celebrates it's one year anniversary this month. Five new members joined FP over the past month and the total membership is now up to 47.

The project has collected enough donations of computer parts and money to now have six Foldinator Systems. These systems have already contributed well over 100,000 WUs for folding@home and over 25,000 WUs for genome@home.

Good stuff! The first part, Vijay's stuff, may wait for the next one, but the other stuff is in.
Thanks!

Here are a couple of links for the Genome side, Scientific results with published scientific papers on their Genome research, and also Publications and Press Coverage which has some links to press coverage of Genome@Home.

It's always a combined effort of the teams and their members ... it's really easy to write about the accomplishments of our DC clubs ... the hard part is the commitment made by all the members that results in the stuff to write about.

What a great community this is.
