MONTREAL - Cogeco Cable Inc. made official today a significant speed increase for its high-speed Internet service, ranking Cogeco among the fastest Internet service providers in the world.
As previously reported by www.cablecastermagazine.com, Cogeco's download speed has been increased from 3 Mbps to up to 5 Mbps for its standard high speed Internet service and from 5 Mbps to up to 10 Mbps for its High Speed Pro service. Upload speed has also been significantly increased to 640 Kbps for the standard service and to 1 Mbps for the Pro service. "These new speeds redefine the industry benchmark and are well ahead of what DSL high-speed providers can deliver to their customers," says the company's press release
The speed increase is network-wide, meaning all Cogeco high speed Internet customers now experience what is one of the highest-speed downloads available in the country.
"The high speed Internet service we offer today to our customers enables them to experience truly high speed Internet. Cogeco high speed Internet customers now enjoy surfing the Internet at average speeds that are up to three times faster than the current average speeds of the leading DSL high speed internet provider" said Ron Perrotta, vice-president of marketing and sales at Cogeco Cable.
For several months now, Cogeco Cable has ranked among the fastest High Speed Internet service providers in North America and in the world according to Broadbandreports.com, an independent web site that tracks ISP speeds and customer satisfaction.
"This significant speed enhancement was completed without any changes to customer equipment or pricing, further highlighting the superiority of the cable platform for high speed Internet service," added Perrotta. "We have had an important speed advantage over DSL providers for years and now the gap is bigger than ever before." concluded Mr. Perrotta.
Cogeco is the fourth-largest cable company in Canada with about 830,000 basic cable customers in Ontario and Quebec. |

Congratulations Cogeco! I've always been a fan of the Cogeco network- you all do such a great job of providing us with such a fantastic service! This is another great jump in service quality for us lucky Canadian broadband users.
*looks at his piddly 2Mbps/256Kbps Hamilton Mountain Cable connection and looks longingly to his St. Catharines Cogeco cable* ... I want to go home... |

| reply to sheepishSCOT The fact that there is any corporation, let alone a cable company, that truly values its customers the way Cogeco does is astonishing. I love Cogeco so much that I'd love to buy some shares, just so I can say that I own a part of an awesome company.
Way to go guys. My American friends now drool over my Canadian-style connection -- "Too many of us look upon Americans as dollar chasers. This is a cruel libel, even if it is reiterated thoughtlessly by the Americans themselves." - Albert Einstein Yes, I CanChat. Can You? |

| reply to sheepishSCOT Hi, I have a question about the upgrade.
My download speeds are around 4700 - 4800 kbps and have been pretty constant since early this month, but my upload speeds have dropped to 200 - 300 kbps. Yesterday it was the highest it's been all month, it went up to about 450 according to various speed tests. My upload speed has been constantly dropping down into the mid 300's and 200's all this month.
My question is, have the upgrades been done? Should I be getting uploads up in the 600's today? |

| Haven't seen any Speed increase here in Belleville. Infact it's gotten worse since around second week in Jan.
Pro Package which I'm on sounds impressive when Cogeco say's "up to 10Mbps", but how many people are actually even getting 6Mbps, or 5Mbps. For the speed I'm getting now I might as well save a few bucks and switch to the standard package. Thinking about doing that unless things pickup here somewhat.

| I am on tier 1 soho and am getting 9000kbps down but the up is sill not 1meg but it will some time. My SOHO has been 10,000 since Christmas when I switch my router to one with a 100meg WAN port. If you are on Pro or the SOHOs and using a router, your router must have a 100meg WAN port in order to see the 10 meg download speed. 10 meg WAN port on a router has overhead of upto 30-40%. I did testing on my two router and sure enough I get 10meg down with mt D-link 614+ but not my Nexland Pro400. And way to "lead" the way Cogeco. You don't follow, you lead. Beat that Rogers and Sympatico ! Good Luck Bill |
