Will Zoom X5 work with Bellsouth FastAccess?

I'm considering purchasing a Zoom X5 ADSL(5554)Ethernet/USB modem and would like to know if the VPI/VCI settings are configurable. Also, I would like to use the modem with my Bellsouth FastAccess ISP. Is there any other information or settings I should consider when verifying compatibility of ISP/modem before purchasing?

Welcome to the BS forum...

I would think you would want to review the specifications before you purchase?

Absolutely the Zoom DSL Modems work on Bellsouth FastAccess and easy to put in the VPI=8 and VCI=35 for BellSouth.

I have been running an X4 for exactly 1 year now. The X5 is the same unit but has a convenient 4 port Ethernet Switch built in.

Thanks for the info...

The Zoom x5 interested me for the fact it had the additional ports built in and the price was right. There's just not much I can find on the net as far as reviews. I'm guessing it's still fairly new on the market??? Bellsouth states on their site: "At this time, all Ethernet modems are compatible with FastAccess service." which is a little unclear. Do they mean ALL literally or just what they currently support? One of the modems they recommend using is the Westell 2100, which doesn't have the additional ports built-in.

Thank you Dan...

Specs look good, but I'm a little unclear if there might be a compatibility issue with the ISP/modem. I think kingofdsl may have helped answer my question.

The X5 is based on the X4 which has been on the Market over a year, it just adds the convenience of a 4 port switch built-in.

It also has a USB port that is live at the same time as ther Ethernet port so you can actually have 5 PC's connected directly to it.

UPDATE
Installed the Zoom X5 ADSL Modem last weekend. It took me a while to configure and get it up and running, but now it works great with my Bellsouth connection! I even saw a slight increase in speed over the old Alcatel USB modem I had been using.

Thanks to everyone for their help on this topic!

Does this modem/router have drop down boxes for configuring game support?

Thanks

dslisgreat,

Don't quite know what type of game configuration settings you are interested in. The X5 does have web console that you can configure the DMZ so others can see your server if you are hosting a game online.

Would I be better off with the X5 or using my 3220-h as the modem and get a seperate router like a Belkin or Linksys? I may even want to go wireless, though I am already bridging wireless now.
Thanks for the information.

There is lots of choices and many Roads To Rome now with DSL configurations. You are no longer stuck with just whatever Phone Co's hand you.

You already have a hybrid setup now that seems to be working. You can get any number of combinations that would work equally as well or even better. Always a good idea to have back up hardware too.

I have the 3220-h and the Netopia 3346 Ent. The wireless I have is a pci card bridged to my network that I share to my laptop.

I guess what I want is to be able to have more control over the network for my kids. Looks like the Zoom may be the way to go. That way I keep my bridge and only have the one piece of equipment to worry about.

Anyone want to buy a 3346 ent that was only used for testing. Once I saw the options were about like the 3220, I put it back in the box.
Thanks for the help guys.

Thanks to the kingofdsl I was able to get my new X5 up and running in just seconds! Man I love this router so much more than the 3220 or the 3346. Wish I had made the change sooner!!!

No I haven't yet. I will be getting a VoIP adapter shortly though. Should just be able to put the IP address of the adapter as a DMZ zone on the Zoom and that should be it.
