Relax Michael, I also pay into the tax disability fund. What I've heard on CBC about this situation is Sheila Copps wants the government(tax payers)to cover their losses. Everyone knows that company pension plans are similar to the stock market. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. You'll never see the government covering investor losses. I once worked for a company that deducted a few dollars a pay for company shares. If the company went bankrupt I would have lost all I invested. | It all boils down to this. Their pension fund is protected by the province (stated in the article). The problem is, other steel companies have gone bankrupt and have really stretched the allotment that the provincial government has set aside (for protected pensions) so the federal government may step in to help.
It's all about helping those in need.
Just like when you couldn't work because of your medical condition, even though you paid into the disability program, all taxpayers helped pay the cost of your time spent on disability. -- Team Discovery |
