 Running TSC As a service?

Hello everyone,

I did a search in the FAQ's, and in the threads, but did not come up with anything.

I'm wondering if you can run TSC as a service is Windows. I did find this, but it is for UD

»Team Discovery UD FAQ {Archived} »Can I run the UD Agent at the Log On Screen, or as a Service in Windows?

Would I be able to do the same thing, but pick the TSC program instead of UD?

The issue is, I have TSC on a machine that is shared by a few people, and sometimes, when the users are done, they logout, but do not turn the PC off.

If anyone has done this, or has any information, please let me know.

Thanks!

Slava: I'll take a look out at the TSC forums, and post my question there as well.

ColdinCbus: Windows 2000 Professional.

Thanks for everyone's help so far.

If you have admin rights, try this. »support.microsoft.com/default.as···ontent=1

You can also try »www.firedaemon.com/ the lite version will allow you to set up one service.

I remember using Firedaemon before on Seti, didn't even think of it for TSC
But then I found out about Seti Hide and have been using it since.

Thanks for the links. I do have admin rights on the box, so I'll give the Microsoft site a try. If that does not work, I'll take a look into firedaemon.

Thanks again for the help. I'll post a reply tomorrow and let you guys know how it worked out.

Everyone,

Well, I went with the Microsoft version. The first thing I had to do was to find a copy of the Windows 2000 Resource Kit. Once I got that installed, it was really easy.

I followed the instructions at the Microsoft Site, and then when I was done, I made sure that I removed any shortcuts to TSC in my startup groups, and then rebooted.

When the PC came back up, I logged back in, and noticed that the TSC Services were running, and I had no errors!

So, looks like things are working. I have now logged out, and returned the PC to the login screen. I'll see if over the next few days I still get results on that node.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: Running TSC As a service? -- NO LONGER WORKING

Everyone,

Well, yesterday I said that it appeared to be working. I left the machine in the "windows login box" all night and all day today. When I checked in out a the main TSC site, it said that my node that was running as a service had returned zero results for the day.

Thinking that odd, I walked over and checked the box. Still powered on, and the way I left it yesterday. I then got into the system, and noticed that the service was running after getting in. But, unlike yesterday, none of the TSC processes started up. I waited a few minutes just to be sure, and they never did.

So, I went and stopped the service, set it to disabled, and then ran TSC as I have done in the past. TSC came right up, and started to crunch again.

So, not sure what went wrong, but being Friday night, I figured I would let it crunch normally over the weekend, and then maybe look at it next week.

Any ideas?

Re: Running TSC As a service?

Part of the MS method requires that you edit the registry to enter the program location...I assume you did that?

I've run this method for almost two years now without problems both UD and TSC.

I did that, if you mean going in and adding the parameters Key, and putting the location of the TSC.exe file.

Like I said, it worked once. But, once I logged out and let it sit, it never worked again.

I did not look in the event logs to see if there was a problem though....maybe on Monday when I'm back at work I'll do that.
