| Comcast just lost a potential customer
I know someone who just moved into an old house. The house was used mainly as a vacation place for a couple of weeks a year and never had cable installed.
This person called Comcast and scheduled a day for someone to come out and install cable, including a line from the pole to her house. The day came and the Comcast person arrived only to claim he wasn't aware that a line from the pole to the house was needed, refused to do anything and left. She called in again and rescheduled. The 2nd Comcast person arrived only to claim he too wasn't aware that he was suppose to run a line from the pole to her house. He did say that if she'd pay him $50 under the table though, he'd do it for her.
She said forget it, she's got a coupon for Direct TV and will go for that.

| I think comcast is just getting to big. They use contact installers in almost all areas, that i know of so you never now what your going to get when they come to hook you up.If it would have been a comcast installer i don't think you would have had this problem. |

In-house techs are just as lazy as some contractors. |

oldTDNickell Premium join:2000-12-19 Federal Way, WA | I would think that when you call in for hookup they could tell what needed to be done for that address. |
|
imrf Premium join:2002-06-06 Utica, MI | In legacy systems they can, easily. If they house address does not have an account associated with it, then they have to be prepared for a full install. Also, probably in the notes it said full install, and the person who came out was lazy. |

| In-house techs are hourly, contractors get paid per task done at the job. Some techs just do not like to be challenged and refuse to do drops, especially if they are long. I'm not trying to justify the techs reasoning at somebodeez 's friend's house. I think it was crap that the job was not done, but from what it looks like, the Comcast in their area just does not care. |

That's the beauty of having a competitor. The provider has to try just a little harder, not the customer. |

And why should a customer have to "try a little harder" ? |

| reply to somebodeez Just spoke with her again
The request for the $50 makes a little more sense to me now but I am still puzzled over a couple of things.
It turns out that the Direct TV people told her she had too many trees in her yard and it wouldn't work out for her unless she got rid of the trees which she's not going to do. So she called Comcast again.
THIS time they informed her that they have her scheduled for "a dig" within the next 2 months. They will not give her a line from the pole to her house. They said they have to put it underground. Every other house in the neighborhood has drops going from poles to homes but they insist on burying hers.
So now I understand why the guy said he'd run a drop for her for $50, I understand that since they want to bury her line they'd need to wait for the ground to thaw (I guess) but I don't understand why they insist on burying her line when everyone else has above ground lines.
I also don't understand why she wasn't informed of this the first 2 times. |

1 edit | reply to somebodeez maybe they were scared to run it with all the snow on the ground
and the 50 bucks was to cover all the beers they needed if they fall and crack thier butt on the ice
edit: well since it's an underground.. this may not be the case |

| reply to somebodeez The trees are in the back, the pole is out front. The power lines are above ground and it still doesn't explain why she wasn't told about this the first 2 times and why her lines have to be buried when everyone else's are above ground. I don't mean to be a dense head but I just don't get it. |

| reply to somebodeez there could be alot of legit reasons why they couldnt do it thats why they set it up for a survey and he comes out and figures the best way to get cable there . you said the poles out front you mean in their front yard or across the highway out front? also just because theres a pole dont mean theres cable on it, there might not be a tap cut in and they might have thought it easier to bury it. if you could give a better description or take a couple pictures of the situation some techs might help you out on here. I know shaking down a customer for 50 dollars like that is a no-no, and if thats an employee he would be fired for that, a contractor would get black-balled. comcast does not go for that. The only possible thing I could think of is if where you wanted your outlet reqired some custom work, theres an additional charge for fishing walls. but that would not be paid in cash to the tech , it would be on your bill. sounds shady to me though. post a few pics and well see whats up. -- »briankellycable.com |
