I would be very interested. I would like to hear from present hosts as to what the approximate monthly electricity costs would be.

Although I know there is a real cost associated with operating each blade, I didn't notice a cost increase.

Sure, no probllem, I got room on the shelf, and a few RJ45 spots left in the switch.
They could keep my 3 blades company, or vice versa.:D

Do we need more money in the fund?

If we could get Andrew to donate some of those retro boxes then I got a shelf I can put them on. Other than that I don't have room right now. Maybe by the next go around I will be able to host some blades in my new office.

TDPH means crunching for the cure to me. Anyone that has read my profile knows my wife and her family have battled several types of cancer over the last several years. I have lost several friends to it. Project Hope means exactly that, Hope for those in the future by the crunching we do today. Maybe my grandkids and yours won't have to deal with some of the cancers and diseases we have to due to our work here. I came to dslreports.com for work purposes, but found these forums and got addicted to crunching.
As far as hosting, I have a private office at home with plenty of room, constant temp year round between 68-72 degrees, high speed that averages 2750/350, and no concerns about power unless it was some ungodly amount.
I have built my own computer, a blade, and worked on several other computers. I work in the industry every day dealing with ATM, Frame Relay, and DSL. I used to run the nation's second largest private network and know the technologies.

And my cat thinks it would be a good idea to keep the room warm...

Sorry for the lack of info before.
To me, TDPH means that I can make a difference in the battle against cancer and TSC.
Cancer has invaded and destroyed several of my family and friends, and TSC has also caused 2 of my good friends children to suffer greatly.
I became involved only by checking this forum while browsing BBR, at the time, I had no idea that this type of project existed.
I have the computer building and maintaining experience to set these blades up, tweak them for optimal performance, and keep them running, have built at least 20 PCs and repaired so many more.
I have the room, which has it's own AC unit, and broadband internet connection, with an ethernet switch and KVM switch with available openings.
But most importantly, I care about what you are doing here, despite my lack of posting here, I do lurk and read.

Thank you for considering me for one of the host.

Just wanted to update the possible candidates we have at the moment:
BadHat
Dogwood
joatmon65
and simplykristi.

Anyone else?
Again, to the future possible hosts, it's important that you tell a little about yourself and why you would be good for this position.
Since this might be all that the current members will have to go on in voting for you as a host.

not significant

This image shows tracking of my electrical costs for quite a while, since long before adding any blades. I can't remember when I added each blade, but a look through the old forum threads will tell you that.

I'm currently running 4 MOJOs, and I can't detect any cost increase associated with it. I'm sure they're using some electricity, but it's so minor that it isn't significant.

Edit: I'm missing two months' bills - that's why there are two gaps in the data.

And I have another teenager leaving home this summer, so the cost will probably actually go down... :p

TDPH = One Big Family Working Together To Help Find Answers Or Cures To Some Major Medical Problems That Is Seen Daily By Every One. There Is Not Hardly Any Family That Is Not Touched By Cancer In 1 Form Or Another.
I Found BBR A Couple Yrs Ago, But Really Got To Reading & Researching A Few Months Ago & Became Active & Involved. ( Had A Shoulder Operated On ) Couldn`t Do Anything, But Read & Work On Our Puters.:)

We Were Hoping To Be Contributing Member By Now, But, Possibly Looking At Back & Neck Surgery Later This Year, Yuk:(
So The Financial State As It Is, The Best Way For Us To Help Would Be As A Host For Blades.
We Are Not IT Specialists, But We Have Worked On & Built Computers For The Last Few Years As A Hobby. We Have Broadband 3000/384, & Can Make Room With No Problem Next To Our Other 6 Computers. As Far As Electric, It Wouldn`t Make A Noticable Difference, We Have Run As High As 10 Computers & Seen No Diff..;)

We Just Want To Help The Best Way We Can To A Great Cause & Big Family Here At TDPH.
Thanks For Reading This Long Post.

I remember when TSC was started, I really didn't know what it was all about until I read about all the great work everyone has been doing there. At that point I knew it was a VERY worthwhile project. Having been blessed with 3 great kids that are grown now, (well 1 is turning 15 in May), and all very healthy I would be more than happy to run a cruncher for childhood diseases! At this time I am trying to get my A+ certficate, and with a little luck I will have it before summer starts. I have no trouble keeping my 5 machines at home running at top efficiency, all running Nortons Systemworks, Nortons Personal Firewall, Adaware, Spybot, Diskeeper lite and more. I am connected through Comcast running consistant speeds of 1700/256 with no service interuptions in the past 2 years. All my computers run through a Linksys router, 2 more spur off of a U.S. Robotics Hub, that's the one with 2 ports open. 4 machines are set-up in my back room, the current average temperature ranges between 48/58 degrees F. Please see attached photos of my crunchin' room. Thank you for considering myself for this project.

I looked into Team Discovery at the start of the whole buddy thing for Starfire. But, I ended up with a buddy from Helix. Next thing I did was put my dedicated server (Team Cache VII) on Discovery, as I lost both my Grandfathers to cancer. As I'm a member of the BoD for Team Starfire, I won't host blades for them, but I would be happy to host blades on this project. I have ample bandwidth, plenty of space, and costs will be at a minimum.

Although I started with Starfire, this is a wonderful project that will get pc time from me. I think with my tech knowledge, that I could be a great host for you.

It has been a little over 3 days since I made this post and we probably have all the possible hosts already here.
But for fairness sake lets give this till the close of business Day tomorrow 10 February 2004.
At that time I'll take the names that are here and we can make a poll in the TDPH forum for our next host.

Currently we only need one host, but we will need more.
Before the voting even starts I would like too say that looking at the list any one of you would do a great job.
And too save time in the future what we will do is have the person with the most votes as host.
And have the runner up with the most votes as a host in the waiting if you will.
So when the time comes (which might be sooner then later, depending on funds and how many extra blades each host we already have can take on). The host in the waiting will be the host that will follow the winner of most votes for this election.
This will save us time on going through all this again and it will also save the people interested in hosting to have to put up all there info again and to go through this process an extra time.

Again to recap this post, please get your name and all the info in by end of closing day tomorrow if you wish to host blades.

Thank you,
R/Slava

It's rough having people compete to host blades. Kinda like having a waiting list for season tickets.

Kudos to all who have stepped forward. You are all deserving, so much more the motivation to get more built until we run out of takers.

Don't think that'll happen, though.
