Suprnova has already been in the mainstream press (MSNBC article somewhere on this site).
The RIAA/MPAA have been snooping Suprnova users for quite some time, and many letters have been sent to downloaders. With Bittorrent, if you're downloading, you're uploading, so everyone is guilty. I'm not surprised Suprnova is still online... they have many mirrors most of which are located in other countries. The site that lists the torrents is not nearly as prone to shutdowns as the trackers that coordinate the transfers themselves. There's nothing illegal about listings.
Besides, keeping the site alive provides a steady flow of illegal downloaders for the authorities to sue.
Suprnova is the 'Kazaa' of Bittorrent. It's the most mainstream and easily accessible BT site. With something like a million hits a day, you can bet your ass the RIAA/MPAA is watching.
I personally believe P2P will be victorious over the authorities. The technology cannot be stopped, and security will only get better and better. But that victory is still a long way off. So until that time, if you don't want to get sued, the only way to truly avoid it is don't download illegal content.
P2P will prevail, as there are countless legal applications of such a technology. |

Here, here! I use it to grab all of the television episodes of my favorite shows. I cannot be bothered to go through the local Cable Co... Their digital services are worse than their analog TV services. (And that is pretty bad, let me tell you.)
I have BitTorrent running to grab my Enterprise, Red Dwarf, Space 1999, Southpark and Futurama episodes. Next month I an going to collect what I can of Voyager and Deep Space 9.
