Re: just goes to show you.

Agreed. People just have way too much time on their hands and enjoy bitching. Seems that they need to be shipped off to Iraq to do some time in the military if you ask me. Maybe then their expectations will be a little more in-line with reality.

With this update server compromised the person(s) wishing to infect others machines would have an easy time. Yes most people would say ok to a pop up asking them if they want the update from Google. So yes in theory they would still become infected.
Well...now I just feel terrified all over again.

Man -- wouldn't it be awful if...if...if...

Some asshat hacker decided to add BOOBS to the double-o in google and fill my search pull-down with a penis picture?

HORRORS! LET ME UNINSTALL ALL OF THESE EVIL SECURITY RISK FILLED...

...seriously. Guys...it's hearts. You're obviously vexxed because no one loved you on Valentine's Day. Keep playing the UT2K4 demo with your buddies and move on.

Well this just proves one thing. People will bitch about everything.

I wouldn't even bother. If I found it to be intrusive, I'd just dump the toolbar, 'nuff said.

lets say Google gets it's update server compromised.
Since we know nothing about how this auto updating system works, you don't know exactly what can be changed. What if Google designed it so that the only things that could be changed were the images, not allowing any actual program code to be changed at all? Then, all a hacker could do is display a very small image on someone's computer, until Google resolved the problem. That's not a very serious issue.

For real, what's the big deal? Although there are a lot of sleazy programs out there, I'd feel more comfortable with Google changing my toolbar than some small/no name company.

Thing about your statement just a bit harder next time before stating something so not well thought out. Example - lets say Google gets it's update server compromised. Yes it's Google I'm sure they have top notch security. But things can happen. With this update server compromised the person(s) wishing to infect others machines would have an easy time. Yes most people would say ok to a pop up asking them if they want the update from Google. So yes in theory they would still become infected. But no program should auto update unless the user has specifically asked it. Users of any software shouldn't be forced to except auto updates. In my opinion it's just bad security. Thus the reason users brought it up in the security forum. There NOT complaining to be complaining. They have a genuine concern that needs to be addressed.

Re: Hm-m-m...

I thought it was pretty cool. Google is a trusted source and I'm not concerned at all by this:)

Somebody posted a message (can't remember where) that it was a "TIMED" one time install/modification. If you were connected to the net at the right time then you would have been affected.

I missed it I guess?

Isn't that weird my XP PRO pc wasn't affected by the DEADLY pink hearts? lol
It is weird. I'm using XP Pro on all of my machines, and they all got it. Everyone I know with XP Home or Pro got it too. Oh well.

Do you have the newest version of the toolbar installed on your XP Pro machine? It's 107.

Gawd.

Don't get all worried over something as lame as this.

It is cute! It happened to my 98SE machine but not on my XP Pro machine. Even after restarts. Oh well.
