[Me] Repeat Windows Media Player 9 Updates

[WinMe PC with all updates]
After updating Windows Media Player 9 (when it notifies me updates are available) I install the update without a problem, reboot, launch media player and have it check for updates again and it shows updates are available again. It appears it wants to download the same update (by the size of the update--1M) again. This doesn't happen on our WinXP Home PC, only on our WinMe PC. What's going on?

Thanks Crystal Sky for the link on the removal of WMP9 in XP - one could really be in trouble now - it says to use System Restore to remove WMP9 and revert to the previous version. First off I probably don't have that restore point anymore as I have had WMP9 for awhile and that goes against anything I have ever learned about System Restore -I was always under the impresssion that it was not designed to remove programs! I thought WMP9 was a component of Windows and was removed through the add/remove windows components function!

I guess I am really not as knowledgable as I thought I was! Dang it - just when I thought I was getting the hang of this!

No Updates Available for WMP 9
Hmmm .. for the heck of it, I checked on my son's 98SE computer and his WMP 9 isn't showing any updates! Weird, huh?

Remove/reinstall is not an option in my case.

See Pic {XP Home}: do you not have a similar entry in Windows ME? Also, I checked here on my XP box and it says the same thing: no new updates for WMP 9.

No, WinMe does not have that entry for removing WMP9

On the Dell Support forum someone posted the same problem you are having. They said they sent an email to Microsoft and received this response from MS

The support for OEM based products is tied up with the computer manufacturer. They are in a better position to support you since they are well known to your hardware and the basic settings on how your Microsoft software works on your machine considering the modifications they have made.

What a load of an answer. Blame it on Dell.

Anyway, the person was able to fix their problem by uninstalling KB828026 via the Add/Remove Programs, rebooting, and reinstalling the update via the MS updates website.
