| Win 200 starting to hang on boot, RASPPPoE related
I have a recent problem that appears to be networking or maybe RASPPPoE related.
I have a Win 2000 box that I installed RASPPPoE on about 3 months ago. Since that time it's been working great along with SBC DSL. Recently I had some issues with the WDM drivers for my TV capture card. At one point when I was struggling with the WDM drivers, when I rebooted the device manager came up and installed a second "WAN miniport driver" under network adapters. I believe this is the driver that is associated with RASPPPoE, correct?
I deleted the duplicate miniport driver in the device manager. Now everytime I reboot, Win 2000 get sto the desktop and then hangs for about 30 seconds to a minute while it appears to be looking for my ethernet adapter. I know this is what it is doing because the icons in the taskbar don't show up for 30-60 seconds.
Another problem is that the RASPPPoE dial up connection now takes longer to connect. It used to be that I would hit "connect" and almost instantly it would connect and go to the taskbar. Now it is sluggish and takes a few seconds.
I don't have any problems while I'm connected. Any ideas would be appreciated. I haven't tried uninstalling RASPPPoE yet, I'm thinking there must be something else to investigate first.
I'm also curious what RASPPPoE adds to the network adapters in device manager. Is it just the single "WAN miniport" (I can't remember the full name) entry?
Thanks! |

Actually what Bob Carrick posted is partially right, but for the complete solution go to:
