Re: [wireless] WRT54G and WPA problems!

Had the same problems. Disabled the wireless zero in hopes that the Linksys monitor would kick in...no such luck. Couldn't connect at all. Finally had enough and downloaded the Odyssey (3rd client software) by Funk...turned off wireless zero permanently.

Haven't had any disconnect problems. I guess until the problem is resovled between wireless zero and WPA, this will work.

Does anyone have any idea how I can lower the signal on my WRT54G (linksys router)? I've read on the forum about people decreasing their signal so that it doesn't "leave the house". Can't figure out where to find the proper setting to tweak.

Thanks

Look for post about hacked firmware. With that you can increase or decrease the signal strength.

dtaylor, are you using Odyssey with WindowsXP or another OS? To my knowledge I wasn't aware that Odyssey would work with WindowsXP.

yes, I'm using XP. Just so you know exactly what I'm using, here is the link......

I've downloaded the demo and the little black ship shows up next to the time on my screen. I've disabled the wireless zero.

I really thought that it was strange that I could never manage to get the linksys lan monitor to work, or even appear. Just finally got tired of the nonsense and saw a post that mentioned odyssey.

Thought that it couldn't hurt, and might help. Of course I haven't paid for the full version yet, so we'll see how this 30 days goes.

When I first installed the updated driver package for the WPC54G notebook adapter the installation went awry and it installed the Odyssey client as well (Free from Linksys but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be an XP compatible version). I ended up doing a system restore to get it undone. I will try the Odyssey client if the registry tweak mentioned in the other post doesn't work.
