Broadvox Direct Pre-Launch Announced !

First of all I would like to thank everyone that signed up for Broadvox Direct in December of 03' The input that we have received from these users has been of great value. We have been able to address issues that were found in our subscription process, and perfect our processes. In particular I would like to thank a user by the screen name 'PhoneBoy'. PhoneBoy has given us consistent and valuable feedback about the end user experience. PhoneBoy has also contributed by way of helping other subscribers online and creating a great Broadvox Direct service overview ( »www.phoneboy.com/bin/view.pl/Per ... dvoxDirect ).

That being said I am very pleased to announce that Broadvox Direct will be making its service available on a pre-launch basis, to Voxilla and DSL Reports subscribers, during the week of February 23rd. During this pre-launch phase you will have an opportunity to signup for Broadvox Direct Residential service with the setup fee waived. This promotion will be valid from Noon, Monday February 23rd. through midnight Sunday February 29th. We look forward to serving you, and truly appreciate your support.

Best Regards,

Caller ID is not really broken, it has to do with the way we are routing calls currently for strict monitoring. This will be changed just before the official launch.

Regarding International rates, what are you referring to? Have you had a problem with rating?

Thanks for the public acknolwedgement, Jeff. How much am I going to need to update that page I've got after launch?

My guess on the Voxilla poll was right, at least as far as the pre-launch goes. Do I get a prize?

Jeff, I'll be signing up. But first a couple of small questions:

a) Does the Residential Regional Plan work in such a way that I can choose an area code other than where I live (I'm in Canada, so that's a must) and make a 'local/regional' call into my BVD area code? E.g. if my BVD area code is 415, would my calls to 415 (originating in Canada) be logged as local/regional calls?

b) Can I sign up with one plan and later upgrade to another? E.g. sign up with the Residential Limited Plan to test the waters, then upgrade to Residential Regional or Residential Plus?

Glad this is coming on line,

a) Yes, if you choose a regional plan, you will get calls within that region free, regardless of your physical location.

b) I believe this is possible, or at least it seems like it would be in the portal. Jeff would have to comment on change fees, if any (Vonage charges them at least).

a) That is exactly how the program works. Your region is based upon the number you have not where you live. You can live anywhere on the planet and select a number from any area that we service.

b) No problem in changing plans. If you change in the middle of your billing cycle your change will take place at the end of that cycle.

Jeff,

Can I have my current phone number ported with Broadvox Direct? If I want to use my own Sipura 2000, are you going to lock one of the ports?

Thanks.

You would signup by visiting our site, unless you have your own device you would need to call customer care to signup. We do lock the device if you bring your own. I know that we lock the Administration of the device and from what I have heard this can limit your access to the free port as well. If that is the case you may want to keep your owned device for other uses and have Broadvox or any paid provider your signup with send you a device at no cost.

We will not be supporting LNP (Number porting) until probably June.

I will be interested in knowing if/when I can port my Vonage residential number to a BVD residential plan. Here's wishing that some day number portability between VOIP will become a reality.

Jeff, I have an account with you now.. I am using the Sipura that is provided by you. I recently bought a sipura from voxilla that came with a free month of BVD service. Could I apply that free month to my existing account? or would I have to open a completely seperate account? I bought the second Sipura mostly for use with FWD and don't want to lose access to any ports..
Thanks!

Actually you would need another account. Perhaps you can send back the Sipura that we had shipped. The reason we are willing to give a discount if you own your own device is that we save on some of the costs associated with supplying one. In this case we have already supplied a device, and as such incurred the cost.

Currently there are no discounts for second lines. This may change in the future however our pricing is very competitive already.

Jeff,

I am planning on signing up but would like to know how I can use your service while traveling. I tried to find the answer but no luck. Do you have a "softphone" method or would I have to take the sipura with me and set up in my hotel?

Thanks!
