Sound is key...
1) Don't make any if you don't need to (walk)
2) Listen for others and understand the map you are playing on so you can identify locations (you can actually hear through walls if you listen..and no.this isn't a hack)
and, even though you asked for only one..
3) Situational awareness..know where your teammates are..so if they kill an enemy or get killed, you know where to expect trouble! |

1. Learn how each gun bursts. Guns "spray" in different ways, and for close to medium range, you can be pretty accurate, even @ full auto.
2. Burst fire at long rage. 1-3 rounds at a time, and wait a second to let the crosshairs settle afterwards.
3. For long range fighting, strafe, stop fire, strafe the other way, stop, fire, repeat.
4. Learn what spots you can shoot thru walls with the rifles and deagle.
5. Always aim for right below the head.
6. Be quiet and get a good set of headphones. Sound is your friend.
7. Try to specialize in the main guns used in the game: usp/glock/deagle/mp5/m4a1/ak47/awp/autosnipers. Also learn aug/sig552, but they're not as important.
8. Learn your radar.
9. Learn common camping spots on each map.
10. Finally, learn the special names for sections of each map (ie: on dust2, short A = catwalk = the small section above ct spawn heading to bomb site A.)

Im no expert at CS or anything, just got back into it after about 5 months away but ill give ya some pointers that have helped me in the past.
Lots of my points Babbat brought up and others as well, but ill just restate everything I use and cant play without:
1) Sound - With a good set of headphones, you can almost use sound as a wallhack. Lots of ppl love to run around and make all kinds of noise and if you can identify where they are coming from, you can usually get the jump on them.
2) Radar - I always keep a very close eye on my radar. I usually know where most of my team is and where the ennemy is based on teamates dying. This makes it a lot easier to avoid being jumped from behind.
3) Walk - If you watch me in a pub, 90% of the time, im walking. This allows me to get around without people knowing where I am and gives me an advantage. I usually run to a choke point early in the round, then spend the rest of my time walking.
4) Patience - If you are in a gun fight with someone, peeking and rushing them isnt always the best thing to do. Lots of times if you sit back and wait, they will make a mistake and you can cap them when they do.
5) Pick your fights - Just because you see 1 or 2 people at, lets say for sake of argument Long A on Dust2, it doesnt mean you HAVE to engage them. If you believe they have the upper hand in the fight, just run away and regroup somewhere. This has kept me alive long enough to win many rounds in the past.
6) Learn the weapons - If you can learn each weapons strenghts and weaknesses, you`ll feel that much more comfortable when holding that particular weapon.
7) Learn the maps - If you know a map like the back of your hand, you`ll be more prone to know where people are bound to be and which areas are 'usually' safer. Also learning the most common camp spots is a great help. Which brings me to my next point.
8) Always check corners - You never know when someone could be hiding behind that box you are about to run by, or behind the door you just ran through. Take that extra second to check the little nicks and crevices.
9) Keep an eye on your surroundings - If you are in an area by yourself, dont look at 1 spot for too long. Keep looking all over the place as to avoid having ppl cap you in the back/side/etc.
10) Learn how to use grenades to your advantage - Knowing how to flash/nade/smoke correctly can get you lots of pretty easy kills. For example, I usually save my grenades for areas I know are crowded and where I know they will do the most damage possible. Learning how to Smoke Fake is also fun.  But thats my little secret!
11) Enjoy yourself - Dont be like me, when im playing poorly I usually get a little upset which makes me continue to play poorly.

I find these tactics work for me:
1. Insults: insulting a player can be your greatest advantage. If you can throw out a great mom bomb or something to that extent that can get your opponent laughing, better yet peeing himself you just might score a kill. That's if you don't suck. And if your insults suck, you might as well type 'kill' in console.
2. Say you hack: people dislike people who hack. And nobody likes to be killed by a hacker. So when you get a kill say something like "[myg0t] taught me everything, I hack" and people will dislike you. Then while they are disliking you they'll most likely be angry at you and want to kill you in a haste. Haste in CS gets you killed. They'll want to kill you so bad that you'll get easy kills. Also spam every wall you see, because wallhacking is a great hack and the key is to get people to accuse you. But if you DO actually hack, I'll ban your ass.
3. Make noise: what everyone said about sound is bullshit. Make a tonne of noise. Especially when a teammate is trying to be sneaky like carn. Your teammate will most likely get angry at you because you are making noise when they are trying to be quiet and so by making noise you'll give away your teammates positions and you'll be able to bait your teammates and get kills.
4. Learn to bait effectively: spam your mic and say stuff like "Okay let's all go in on 3" and then let them go, wait an extra few seconds and then go in and steal all the kills.
5. Learn to prefire: when turning a corner just start firing. FF is overrated.
6. the radio command "Get out of there, it's going to blow" is your friend: Use it, and use it a lot. Especially on cs_ maps
7. Block your teammates whenever possible: if you notice that your teammate is in a gun fight and you can see him trying to get for cover, block him and steal his gun. Hopefully that he'll have weakened the enemy for you so you can get easy kills that way.

1 edit | my only pointer is when you join, look for the team that's winning before picking one. If the winning team has more players than the losing one, just spec a little till someone switches over, then join the winning team. When you're on the winning team, your shots will hit their targets better and bullets do less damage to you...even if that doesn't work your screenshots will make you look better cause you were on the winning team.

(usp - do rapid/Glock Be versatile with that mode switch (Burst/auto)/ mp5 STRAFE WITH IT/Colt Loves The spray/Ak47 Loves the 1/2 shots/Awp Get mousewheel fast switch or use invprev/ Autosnipers Hell Aim anywhere chest)
8. Learn your radar. (PLEASE GOD DO)
9. Learn common camping spots on each map. (And try to be inventive)
10. Finally, learn the special names for sections of each map (ie: on dust2, short A = catwalk = the small section above ct spawn heading to bomb site A.)

It usually depends on your style.. (DL's style is based on sound, I like more of the scare the shit out of a bunch by rushing)
Try not to buy an awp.. Pick up someone elses!
(But please Dont Ride the person's Ass until you get em killed)
And Learn how to throw Nades and flashes (Dont just get Chuck happy! Throw them BEFORE ANYONE enters an area)
Such as in Dust 2, Rush Bombsite B Flash 2 times First THEN aim for the wall and spray.. Ask PT i got him like twice this way and always Play HAPPY LAUGH YOUR ASS OFF!!!
Oh yeah Prefire properly by first checking radar..
Don't join the winning team (I love to join the losing team-- Makes sense since i have the most deaths + First to die rank )
Oh yeah Setup your buy scripts for standard guns
one for Vesthelm, awp+primammo, Colt, ak, sniper series, Smgs (Forget the famas and galil, unless you really like/ good at em stick with mp5), bind one for autoshotty (for rush/quick kills) and for the nades too. In order buy Weapon, Vest, hegren, etc.. (But I believe Nade and vest maybe switched.)
