so am i understanding you correct in saying the DVI port is now functional.. ?

cool if it is .. i need to make a trip to FRYS.

DVI definitely works on my machine.

However, my Philips plasma has problems with the 4:3 channels. The 16:9 channels looks great, but I see an annoying line at the top of most of the 4:3 channels.

Granted, my plasma dvi-d is really supposed to be a computer input, so I can't expect it to work for HDTV. I finally had to go back to component and use S-Video for my DVD player.

I assume the 6208 uses a different guide than the 5100? If so, do you think its better? Faster? Slower?

How many days are in the guide's listings?

Does the 6208 let you record all episodes of a particular show through a single setting?

Will they let us do a self-install of the 6208 or is that another service call & charge?

Thanks for all the help over this lengthy thread.

I should get paid by the question.

1. The guide is different. Blue, Purple or Black.
2. Approx. 4 days
3. Yes and no. I can set a Mon-Fri show to record without having the guide info yet.
4. I don't honestly know, probably a truck roll.
5. Your welcome.

Not trying to be sarcastic.

Is there an advantage to using DVI over the component?

Component is analog. DVI (actually DVI-D) is digital. Your monitor will actually convert the analog to digital so there is a source of error.

So using component: Digital->Analog->Digital

DVI-D: Digital->Digital

On my Philips plasma, I really can't see the difference. I will use the DVI so I can use component out of my DVD player.

Kcharg,
I'm not sure if this is a dumb question but....

Why not have all of the features of the box enabled upon release??

Why wait to enable the USB.. the Ethernet.. the DVI
Why cant they just release the box with everything working rather than teasing us by showing features that we can't use and getting us upset until they do??

PD

That's a damn good question. It's all on Motorola actually. Comcast can only implement so much. As soon as Motorola gave us the capabilities to enable to DVI we did. It's just a matter of time before the Ethernet and USB ports are enabled.
