It typically will get installed automatically.
Of course, if you get 7.10 and you're using DVI, you may run into problems. There is a widespread problem with version 7.10. It causes an issue where the DVI output and HDCP on your display device don't want to play nice together, so DVI becomes unavailable.

| reply to blues96 Whenever the firmware is available, it is for everyone. Motorola is the one to introduce the new firmware in the market. Perhaps Your cable company has not been contacted by them as yet, or other way round it is already scheduled. You shall call your CSR and ask them about it for dates when it is scheduled to happen. |

| reply to IndianPara IndianPara,
Is the firmware 7.10 available to all Comcast areas or just out in Denver, etc. I know my box is polling, but don't know if you have to request the firmware be updated, or should it happen automatically. You had stated that the firmware happened one time and that if it didn't get update then, then you might be out of luck, etc. If I call CSR, will they know how to update the firmware to 7.10 from 7.07 which I currently have. Hope this didn't come across TOO confusing. Thanks, David in Frisco, TX |

Neil..... I said that MSO's are booking the systems right now. The delivery can be 2-3 months delayed. In my meeting with TV Guide, their representative clearly told me that the demand is outgrowing the production. I am sure about this, that big MSO's like Comcast, Charter, Adelphia Communications should not have any problems getting them in 2 months time frame. Also some MSO's may decide to quit TV Guide in favor of Microsoft Guide which is due launch 3rd quarter of this year, so there are many can's, may's possible.. |

| reply to neilnr Yes Neil, You do make sense and I am terribly sorry for saying before that the box does not make any difference. What I wanted to say was the the relevence of older boxes will not be applicable once the new TV Guide Systems are installed as they are supporting older boxes too with 2 weeks of programming. To your second question, the answer again is YES. Regardless of the box with a single or double tuner, people will still get 2 weeks of programming. Hope I was clear this time. |

1 edit | reply to IndianPara I'm sorry to ask this question again, but why do the dvr boxes get the new guide with 14 days of listings and the other boxes don't, if it has nothing to do with the boxes? Do I make since? Here's another question, when that new tv guide is in every mso headend next month will all the boxes besides the dual tuner ones get that guide? |

| reply to neilnr Dear Neil, It has nothing to do with the boxes. You can be using DCT2500 series and still you will get 2 weeks of programming in advance, provided your Cable Company has the latest TV Guide system installed in their headend. The same for 6200 series of boxes. For now the demand for that new TV Guide system outgrows the production. Most likely by end of the third quarter, all the Cable TV Subs should be having 2 weeks of programming. According to Motorola they are going to introduce dual tuner boxes by next month, which to me seems a bit early. But for sure, new TV Guide will be in every MSO's headend before those Dual Tuner boxes are out for subscribers. There are many exciting things going to happen within this year which companies like DISHNET or DIRECTV can not implement technologically. Also look forward to the STB's with inbuilt Cable Modems... |

| reply to IndianPara Is that the same for tha advanced boxes? The dct-6208 gets 14 days of listings on the new tv guide. Will the other advanced boxes like the dct-6200 get more listings then it has now when that new guide is deployed? Faster time period then the basic ones? |

Switch off your STB and within 5 seconds click on "Select" of your remote control. A menu will open and you can use arrow keys to browse through and it will tell your the firmware. Up & down arrow keys will browse you through the menu, and side arrowkeys will take you to submenu. Once finished, press OFF and ON again to resume with your normal programming. I am telling you this but customers are not supposed to know about it though.. 8-)) If it is not 7.10, then you need to contact CSR as most likely your box is not polling. MSO/HITS usually update the firmware of the boxes automatically through the same coaxial Cable without you knowing about it. If your box was not polling to the HMS system in the headend then perhaps you did not get the update. In any case if the firmware is older you will need to contact CSR at your Cable Company. |

| reply to IndianPara Thanks for the update on the firmware version. I am not at my home right now to check, however, if I find that I don't have the updated firmware, how do I get it updated? Also, can I see the firmware in the setup area of the box?
Thanks for the help in advance. |

| reply to IndianPara It is soo hard to admit when people's equipment is bad. I run too many Service calls daily that are due to customer's bad equipment. It all makes it worth it when they get charged that hourly service charge though, especially when I prove to them after being shouted at....LOL

1 edit | reply to kcharg The issue was with the older firmware. The latest firmware now is 7.10. Anyone having that firmware should not have popping sounds anymore. A note to people: I have come across cases where even with the latest firmware people were complaining about the popping sound. Usually those customers were using the Optical output for which they purchased the jumper from the local store. A very little dirt which may look to you as perfectly clean Fiber can cause popping sound. In this case, the gentleman purchased a fiber jumper from the local store paying $50 and his speakers were popping so he complained to us. We only changed his fiber jumper with ours which was thoroughly cleaned by us and it started to work fine. As strange it may sound, people at time do not want to admit that something can be wrong with the stuff they bought... |

Yes, it is a permanent change. Some MSO got newer TV Guide computers in their headend system end of 2003 and most likely your MSO is one of them. Be happy and enjoy, as other people will have to wait until end of the year. |

1 edit | reply to neilnr Re: DVR's
First of all, Hi to everyone. I am a Broadband Guy who takes care of a Plant from where all CATV and broadband services are sent to STB's.
As to your question regarding the box not having more then 4-5 days of programming in TV Guide, it goes this way. There is a computer provided by TV Guide to every MSO. That computer keeps updating the program from the satellite sent by TV GUIDE Broadcasters. TV Guide is launching 14 days of advance programming currently and MSO's have already started booking them. By spring this year, you should be able to get 14 days of advance programming. It has nothing to do with the type of STB you are using. |
