| Links to Silent vendors please
I'd like to place some trusted silent product vendor links above the forum. I'd like NOT to just link to websites that also have silent PC advice on them. You can find those yourself using google
if you shopped for silent stuff, (even if via newegg) then paste a link if you can, not the link to newegg - the link to the website of the maker, Zalman, SilentX etc etc. |

| This topic puzzles me. I have never had a noisy computer. I have an old Dell Dimension Pentium III and a brand new 8300 Dimension with a Seagate Barracuda hard drive and one GB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM and both my Dell's are absolutely silent. They are so quiet that, at times, I worry that they are not turned on or that the fans have quit! The only way to hear a Dell is to take the cover off and even then it's quiet.
So, I would say buy a Dell and you will have a silent computer. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." Victor Frankl - Man's Search for Meaning |

| reply to justin Sure, but you can't change anything later.... we are talking about hand built machines, over clocked and custom... many of the items you can buy are very very loud.

| Well, if you are talking ONLY about home built PC's then change the title to reflect this fact. There are a lot of people who want to BUY a computer and don't want a noisy one. This forum doesn't indicate it such a narrow focus. It is under "Equipment" and says "Silent PC's" It should be titled "Silent Home Built" PC's seems to me. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." Im not a big air cooling fan (no pun intended) but I have to say the Thermaltake Silent Boost is simply awsome for the amount of noise it produces (21dB)....

Buy them at Outpost.com if you're Eastcoast. If not, head over to Fry's.
»www.fspgroupusa.com/ Fortron power supplies. Also 120 mm varieties, dirt cheap, the homepage i just found out now has a catchy techno loop. Newegg has a 350 watt variant with a speed control knob. Nifty!! And shipped free..
»www.nexustek.nl/nx3500.htm Nexus power supplies. 80mm fans that compete with the above 120mm models for silence -> surprising. The 120mm manufacturers can/should make their products deliver more CFM for less dB's. bleh!

this is the only company i've bought products from, the VGA silencer and one of the "copper silent pro cooling super 2" whatever's from SVC. Replaced stock (dead!) fan on GF3Ti200 -> works like a charm. I guess. The cpu cooler too, makes me kinda wish I didn't get a AX-7/80mm Panaflo.
Basically my loudest component is my 80 gb ?? hard drive. Power supplies can also be pretty loud, thus all those links up there. Hopefully my Maxtor Ultra 160 will come in a little quieter. |

I just bought a 530W Fortron PSU. It has 2 fans and I thought it was going to be a screamer but it is really silent.
I also wanted to pass along that Xoxide has the Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer on sale for $13.99. I own one and highly recommend it....

justin Australian join:1999-05-28 Brooklyn, NY | just in case it isn't clear, because it wasn't for me - the vga silencer wastes a PCI slot. Actually, two, if you are uncomfortable about it being so close to the next card along. |

I have a 19dB Nexus AXP-3200 Quiet AMD cpu fan up to XP 3400+ and a Zalman powerless Northbridge heatsink NB47J coming from Endpcnoise.com.
I am going to try my Asus A7M266 with a new XP2100+ in a Antec Sonata case. I saw a post by you in the computer hardware discussion forum a few days ago and you had a link to SilentPC and at that time it just kept taking me back to the home page.I started Google-ing silent and quiet pc's and have had this stuff ordered and should all be here in a few days. I didn't see this forum till now and am very exited about this...Thanks -- " Laugh while you can ... monkey boy " |

| reply to grobinette Wow that is a great feature. From those demos the Sunon really stands out. »www.sidewindercomputers.com/sun12x25.html 120x120x25mm, 69 CFM @ 2400 RPM, 35.5 dBA, 2.4w, .2 amp, 12v DC, 4-pin connector.
If you ran that at 7v it should put out around 40CFM at about 25 bBA. One on the CPU and one on the case would be a total of 28 dBA. And at $10 each I'll be testing them. -- If you give a little and they give a lot. |
