Voter registration

I just filled out my voter registration paper and it says "RETURN THIS VOTER REGISTRATION FORM TO YOUR COUNTY ELECTIONS OFFICIAL". I don't know where that is, I live in LA county. It also has a business reply mail address to the Sec of State in Sacramento, who do I mail it to?

Once again, google finds it on the first hit ("los angeles county election election officials")

But it's too late to register for the election next week.

Steve is correct, it's too late to register, but there may be an exception. *If* you've been registered to vote before and since moved, you may be able to complete a proxy ballot on the day of the election at *your* polling place. I did this once a few years ago, right after I moved. I believe the two catches are 1) Must have been previously registered 2) in the same county. I don't exactly remember how this works, but you can ask the poll workers at your polling place. You should be able to find your polling place on the same LA County web site.

Good luck.

Good luck.

What you described there is called a Provisional ballot.

From »regrec.co.la.ca.us/voter/faqs.htm :

"What if I just moved and did not re-register? Will I be eligible to vote?"

"If you were previously registered in Los Angeles County and have not re-registered since you moved within the County's borders, you can vote at the polling place for your new address. You will be asked to vote a provisional ballot and provide your new address and your previous address on the provisional ballot envelope."

I belive .. but am not sure .. that Provisional votes are only counted if needed. So all the regular votes are counted first, and they don't open the provisional envelopes and go through the trouble of verifying them all unless it's close enough that the provisional votes could swing it. Also, voting provisionally is not equal to registering, you must register (your new address) under separate cover (the pollworkers give you a form).

Re: Voter registration

Yes, provisional, that's the word I was looking for. And you're right, they are the last votes counted, if needed.
