| Vote NO on ALL propositions Tuesday!
Vote NO on everything Tuesday.
55 - Borrowing more money which is paid for by your tax dollars.
56 - Make it EASIER for them to raise your taxes, you've got to be kidding. Here's a great (animated) commentary on it: »www.ocregister.com/newsimages/co···0224.gif
57 - Borrow more money to pay for the state's over-spending. Paid for by your tax dollars. This is the worst thing we can do.
58 - Balanced budget, yeah right, they'll "balance" it by raising your taxes. And it will be easier to do if 56 passes.
Here is a great lay-person's analysis of the propositions courtesy of Steve . -- "Any information provided to or issued on Internet websites must obtain the inspection and approval of the secrecy censorship." -The Chinese government in a new regulation (January 2000) on future Internet postings. |

| This is a cross-post from the Bay Area forum, but these ballot measures affect all Californians:
I agree - vote NO on all of them. My taxes are high enough, thank you very much. The public's constant approval of these huge bond measures for every project that "sounds good" has been a major factor in ruining the California economy. We are well past the point of not being to afford anything more. California already has high income tax, sales tax, property tax, you name it. The answer is to cut spending.
But I must emphasize the worst of this election's choices: VOTE NO ON PROP 56!!! The bill is full of wonderful sounding things like cutting the Governor and legislators' pay if the budget is late. But the dangerous thing about this bill is that it would reduce the current 2/3 majority for passage of budgetary bills down to only 55%. This would make it far easier for the spend-happy Legislature to just keep on spending and keep on raising taxes.
Now let me ask you, as tax time is fast approaching: how many of you feel you are not paying enough state income tax? How many of you want to pay more?
NO ON 56! |

| reply to TivoNut You are 100% correct. All of these so-called "measures" will ultimately add new taxes in various forms including fees, Levy's, surcharges, etc. These measures are fool's gold.
I see California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger promised not to take any "special interest" money...but he is raking in over $150,000 per day in campaign donations as we speak. He's making Gray Davis look like the Gary Coleman of kick-back pandering.
But at the end of the California day, I bet that these "measures" will pass. Most citizens get their information from the broadcast news media (my pet peeve). This is why the situation is where it is now. Most voters could not tell you what a "bond" is, much less explain how much interest on a bond cost the state--paid for by the taxpayers.
California voted in Arnold Schwarzenegger thinking they some how had a personal relationship with him. IMHO, these people (including me for the time being*) get exactly what they deserve; yet another corrupt politician.
*hint: Consider a move/relocation to Vancouver, WA. It is located 10 min drive across the river from Portland, OR. There are NO State income taxes in WA, and NO state sales tax in OR. Coming from California, that is an instant 20-25%+ increase in income [assuming you could make the same income there]...would you be open to a 25% raise? |

| reply to TivoNut 55-well considering that state is in bad shape right now i don't' see a way out other then borrow money. As for taxes well i can write it off as business expense no big deal
56)yes it may make it easier but it all will make it easier to pass a budget instead of having no budget for 2 month after the deadline, also politicians will not get paid till budget is passed, don't see anything wrong with that
57)goes back to the same point as in 55
58)what is wrong with having balanced budget? |

1 edit | Want your taxes doubled or trippled then vote yes on 56... Want your employer to leave the state so you can collect welfare then vote yes on 56...
Want to solve the problem once and for all? Make it a crime to accept money from public employee's unions!

55) Cut spending instead of borrowing more money in a state that has already maxed its credit limit 56) This is a sham, so many things they don't tell you about unless you read the fine print 57) This is simply to borrow more money to pay things they've already spent money on. 57 buys NOTHING new. 58)Since the state can't seem to stop spending, a balanced budget requirement will mean they are MORE likely to raise taxes rather than cut spending in order to balance the budget. That's what's wrong with it. -- "Any information provided to or issued on Internet websites must obtain the inspection and approval of the secrecy censorship." -The Chinese government in a new regulation (January 2000) on future Internet postings. |

this bond is to borrow money to pay off the loan that is due soon for which the state don't have the money to pay it off with. Do you really expect for the state just to cut 15billion dollars? |

1 edit | reply to TivoNut I want to see state sponsored services cut. Cut cut cut. Away with this socialist bull. Aw you wont get your free sevices, go back to Mexico then if you think its better there. We did not put Schwartzenegger in office so he could maintain spending by having us pay interest on a bond issue for the next 20 years. Cut them off. Cut cut cut cut cut.
Schools - arent even finished spending the money we gave them last nice-sounding proposition and the one before. Cut them off. Let them finish spending the money we just gave them first.
Unions - cut them the hell off. Thank you organized labor for hollowing out American manufacturing. Stop the cancer before it spreads to our last thriving industries.
Bureaucrats - dont need 900 dollar toilet rooms and nine adminstrative assistant lackeys and three annual flower-float parades and handoffs for their buddies. Cut them off. |

| Zoned u want to cut programs please tell me which ones? My parents own non-emergency medical transportation business with state providing transportation for elderly people to and from doctor offices, do you feel this program should be cut? if so do you realize how many people will die as they would not have a way to get to the doctor, this is just one of many examples were the programs that you think don't serve any purpose actually helping people but because it don't affect you in direct or indirect way you don't know about it. |

| Actually what we very badly need is a ballot proposition making it a felony for any elected or non-elected state or local official, or anyone running for state or local elected offices to take any money in any form from public employee's unions or corporations doing business with the state.
That's the only way we will get out of the current mess. A system designed to solely to enrich public employee unions at the expense of children, the elderly, the middle-class, and all taxpayers! -- "Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else."--FREDERIC BASTIAT-- |
