CD-ROM Drive Opening Automatically?

Click for full size
I have Broadbandreports.com set as my Home Page and randomly atleast three times in the last 24 hours my home page would change into this here(See Attachment), and it opens both my DVD Drive and CD-ROM Drive, What the hell? LOL...But Seriously, Anyone have any Ideas as to what is going on? And any solutions?

Thanks,
RRXP

I belive you have spyware. however, the drives opening i s probably since it resets your homepage to that site. You can actually open peoples CD drives using certain HTML code. SO yeah, you have been hijacked, and as soon as you get rid of it, you won't goto that page anymore and your drives won't open.

After following gugarci See Profile's suggestion....you might also consider installing IE-Spyad. The default-homepage-network.com site is just one of the many sites that's listed in IE-Spyad's reg file which would at least prevent any of the script non-sense I found on that page....including the CD Rom drive door opening.

IE-SPYAD: Restricted Sites List for Internet Explorer

said by Eric Howe:
IE-SPYAD is a Registry file (IE-ADS.REG) that adds a long list of sites and domains associated with known advertisers, marketers, and crapware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. Once this list of sites and domains is "merged" into your Registry, most marketers, advertisers, and crapware pushers on the Net will not be able to use cookies, ActiveX controls, Java applets, or scripting to compromise your privacy or your PC while you surf the Net. Nor will they be able to use your browser to push unwanted pop-ups, cookies, or auto-installing programs on you.

Why in gods name does IE allow a web page to eject someone's cdrom?

If a IE user has scripting enabled....all bets are off on what can be done....least of which is ejecting someone's cdrom. The more correct question is why are users allowing web pages to inject\eject items....IE is nothing but 1's and 0's.

The fact that IE is interwoven into the operating system makes it vunerable to these kinds of attacks. That's why I stopped using IE years ago. Only use it for Windows update.

I know for a fact that there is regular html code that can be put on a site. If you look at the source of the html it should reference to msplayer or something like that to open the drive. Its harmless unless you really have spyware.

Never trust a "privacy" product whose principal means of
selling itself is through a deceptive popup ad. Spywiper
fits this advice to a tee. This marketing tactic smacks of
the same kind of questionable practice common to crapware
such as Bonzi's Internet Alert and Evidence Eliminator.

It is actually easy for a site to "open" your CD-Rom drive, I am sure someone will post the code(in a link) in time, "Most likely" this is a scare tactic to get you to buy something they are selling.

Another scare tactic used is >> click this and I will show you everything on your HD, what they DON'T tell you is the fact is YOU are the only one that sees the data.

Why buy spywiper when you can just go through the checklist on
»Security »I think my computer is infected or hijacked. What should I do?

It is a long list of things to do, but it doesn't take that long to go through.

Here is the link to VB Script for opening a CD tray:
which is probably what this web site is using, since the tray opens on queue.

But there are trojans that will open CD trays.

Exactly why it was a horrible design decision on MS's part to allow a web site to open a cd-rom.
