| Computer HiJacked? Hey,
One of my friend gave me this website called »www.desktopgirls.com and I noticed ever since I went there and got me a Wallpaper, my computer was hit was so much spy-ware, I already ran Ad-Ware 6.0 and HiJackThis, but I already deleted the stuff it found so I didn't save a file I also have SpyBot Search & Destroy that found a few things and I got rid of them, I just need to stop this from happening everytime my PC is on, Also I notice my Norton Auto-Protect was disabled, and I can't reenable it, I don't know why, Any Suggestions?
Thanks, RRXP -- Flying on CV Optimum Online Cable @ 8490/945 & Surfing on TWC Coax Road Runner Cable @ 3031/369

| As was suggested in a recent thread of yours....»CD-ROM Drive Opening Automatically? ....some of the unwanted drive by downloads your experiencing can be hog tied somewhat if you would consider downloading IE-Spyad since one of the links on the page you linked to is an entry in the Restricted Zone via IE-Spyad.
Also....you might want to consider learning how to...."TIGHTEN INTERNET EXPLORER"
• Markus Jansson's page on decreasing IE's known vulnerabilities...."Tighten Up"
• Eric Howes's....Internet Explorer Privacy & Security Settings ....very thorough, yet easy to follow tutorial provides numerous screen shots of the procedure. -- "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" *Team Z* Member

1 edit | Re: Computer HiJacked? Doing that won't solve your problem except temporarily. Listen to Bubba's advice and go read those links he gave you and tighten up IE. Preferably, ditch IE and use Firefox 0.8. You'll have a lot less problems. Before I even let my new XP box on the internet the first time, I had followed all the instructions in Markus Jansson's paper on securing XP which includes his suggestions on securing IE6 and I seldom use IE but I made sure it was tied down nonetheless. Eric Howe's advice is also excellent so be sure to read that information and follow it and then you won't be so likely to have this happen again.
Norton is still messed up? Then yes, uninstall and reinstall may fix it, but if you have been following the Security forum you know that Norton has numerous problems which seem harder and harder to fix. When your definitions are due for renewal, I would suggest you look into another av such as KAV, NOD32, etc. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." | One further question....when you first went to www.desktopgirls.com you were given a choice of Enter DESKTOPGIRLS or Enter DESKTOPSTARS....on either of those did you by chance select the link to their wonderful toolbar ? -- "It's 5 o'clock somewhere" *Team Z* Member
