Doing that won't solve your problem except temporarily. Listen to Bubba's advice and go read those links he gave you and tighten up IE. Preferably, ditch IE and use Firefox 0.8. You'll have a lot less problems. Before I even let my new XP box on the internet the first time, I had followed all the instructions in Markus Jansson's paper on securing XP which includes his suggestions on securing IE6 and I seldom use IE but I made sure it was tied down nonetheless. Eric Howe's advice is also excellent so be sure to read that information and follow it and then you won't be so likely to have this happen again.
Norton is still messed up? Then yes, uninstall and reinstall may fix it, but if you have been following the Security forum you know that Norton has numerous problems which seem harder and harder to fix. When your definitions are due for renewal, I would suggest you look into another av such as KAV, NOD32, etc. -- "Everything can be taken from a man or woman but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's destiny." It has to be because before I was there my computer was completely fine and protected, once I went there that's when the pop-ups came up, etc. And then some Casino game was put on my computer, not once but twice and I had to reboot a few times before I can get rid of it, Man It's like my computer got shot about 150 times with so much spy-ware..
BTW, Norton Anti-Virus was running, No Viruses found. -- Flying on CV Optimum Online Cable @ 8490/945 & Surfing on TWC Coax Road Runner Cable @ 3031/369 |

Cool images, but most (over 80% I'd guess) are Photo-Shopped. In other words a celebrity head on a different body, ect. Mostly faked.
No problems here using the site, but I don't use IE. Are you sure that site is the culprit?

| reply to drake After your remove the virus with your scanning software, use one (or two) of the online virus scanners and check if they turn up anything.
2) Run one or two of the free web based AV scanners. Record exactly the names of any malware they turn up. Then quarantine and cure the malware. »security.symantec.com »housecall.trendmicro.com »www.ravantivirus.com/scan »www.pandasoftware.com/activescan

1 edit | reply to drake Follow the suggestions in this: »Security »I think my computer is infected or hijacked. What should I do?
Check for trojans, and then set up your computer so it blocks websites/files.
Update: Somebody here has the links to the programs that you install that blocks nasties from getting on your system before hand. I can't find it, somebody will have it and post. Try this: »www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html It prevents spyware and adware from getting on your system in the first place. -- He that feeds a disease, feeds an enemy. | Hey,
One of my friend gave me this website called »www.desktopgirls.com and I noticed ever since I went there and got me a Wallpaper, my computer was hit was so much spy-ware, I already ran Ad-Ware 6.0 and HiJackThis, but I already deleted the stuff it found so I didn't save a file I also have SpyBot Search & Destroy that found a few things and I got rid of them, I just need to stop this from happening everytime my PC is on, Also I notice my Norton Auto-Protect was disabled, and I can't reenable it, I don't know why, Any Suggestions?
Thanks, RRXP -- Flying on CV Optimum Online Cable @ 8490/945 & Surfing on TWC Coax Road Runner Cable @ 3031/369 |
