Re: Questions about signing up for InsightBB (IL)

I'm outside of Rockford so I can relate to some of your quesitons.

If you have a special box thats for you cable TV now, you have digital cable. So this requirement is satisified.

Also long as the cable modem is DOCSIS 1.0 compliant your also fine.

So after you dicount period and assuming you have the about your monthly rate will be about $35 plus change in addition to your normal cable bill. As always check with customer service before install because you also have the choice of DSL was well as cable where your at (In Rockford or one of the parks/New Milford area's.

Just for reference customer service is on 20th ST 1/2 block south of Charles. Incase you are ever on the phone and just want to mention stopping by on a issue it comes it handly every great once in a while. I've used InsightBB at about 5 different locations in Rockford and for myself outside of Rockford. The Rockford loations have been very happy with it. You have local tech service and customer service. I'm split between Rockford and Lee co.

Did some more digging on this... According to Best Buy, the free cable modem (Motorola 5100) after rebate offer for this week includes the first 3 months for $19.95. This is versus the $29.95 for the first 2 months from Insight.

Since we only have the Classic digital cable, we need to add one digital pack for $5 / month in order to get the cable TV/internet discount of $10 / month.

Insight offers a $4.95 modem (to own), free self-install, and minimum period for service is 3 months.

The only potential snag is that we live in an apartment and they cannot install an extra cable outlet in our other room! The guy did say the tech could hand us a cable to run from the other room to the computer, but they can't be responsible for signal degradation, etc. Has anyone had any problems doing this? It sounds a bit dodgy, but there's really no alternative living in an apartment...

There is a very long thread related to the apartment issue. I thought I'd bookmarked it. But at the moment can't find it. Hopefully someone else will come along with the link.

I believe that this is the link that you are referring to: »Corporate policy for AOs in apartments.

Ah, ok - I think I already had that one bookmarked and forgot about it (it looked familiar).

Anyhow, went to BB and couldn't get the $60 rebate portion or sign-up because their stupid computer system didn't display Insight in the list (just some satellite provider). I ended up getting the modem anyway since it ends up cheaper than anywhere else. I'll give Insight a call this afternoon for sign-up.

Whew! Got the Best Buy thing sorted out. When I got home their site showed Insight in the list of available services, so I gave them a call to check and it was there. We had to drive all the way back and get the same guy (who was rather slack) to fix it.

According to the forms, there's a $20 rebate plus a $60 rebate for signing up for Insight. The first 3 months are $19.95 per month, and we also get free use of the Rhapsody music service for 2 months.

I hope the installation is considerably less painful!

The day after signing up for Insight broadband through Best Buy, I gave Insight a call to arrange the connection.

All was fine until I asked them to confirm the price was $19.95 for the first 3 months. Their response - we don't think so! They said that was only for the first month, yet it clearly says the discount is for 3 months on the order from Best Buy. They went off to check and then said they'd need to find out a discount code before they could apply the discounted rate. I was assured someone would be in contact to let me know when this had been sorted out.

I hadn't heard anything as of 4pm today (3 days later), so I gave them another call and basically had the same dialogue.

Am I just being too impatient? Why don't they know about this Best Buy deal? Is that only for specific areas? It doesn't say anything to that effect on the print-out from Best Buy!
