You can put off your choice now. But you have to remember that this might happen again with another supplier such as Comcast, DirectTV, Cox, and so on.
I think everyone is waiting for the court decision. If it goes in favor of DISH, then consumers win. If it goes Viacom's way, then be ready for the battles.
I hope DISH stays firm. |

| I agree and as I mentioned in this post, »CBS takes offensive against Dish Network/EchoStar, it's just Dish Network's turn currently... It will be DirecTV's turn someday as well as different cable companies soon too. |

| reply to moonpuppy Part of the reason I was going to go to dish is to save money. One of the channels I really wanted to get was TV Land. I could care less about most of the other Viacom channels. If they move some of the channels up a tier or lower their prices I might get them anyway. I am tired of the media conglomerates making underwater basket weaving channels and using their power to force them on cable and satellite providers. -- "Raymond Shaw is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life." - Bennett Marco |

| reply to moonpuppy Looks like the market is agree'ing with Dish
Looks like the stock market is making it's vote..
Some tech companies did manage to push ahead. Shares of EchoStar Communications added 77 cents, or 2.3%, to $34.95 on Nasdaq. The satellite- television company removed Viacom-owned channels from its Dish Network system in 16 markets in response to a dispute over programming fees. Viacom channels include CBS affiliates, Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon. Class A shares of Viacom dropped 40 cents, or 1%, to $39.18 on the Big Board. |

TVLand is not effected (so far). As of 1:55pm Tues it's up and running on my Dish sub.
As far as these Viacom channels being "freebies", to be honest the content has become so lousy that they should be paying me to have them on my sub. Good to see Dish stand up to them. Their doing what I pay them to do. |

| reply to moonpuppy I think I read somewhere that Dish raised their prices by $3 sometime over this past year. CBS/Viacom wanted 6 pennies of that $3 and Dish said no. I don't think giving them 6 pennies would have raised the rates to the customer. I don't have a dish and never will, but its just my two cents, now someone just needs 4 more and they can get back their missing channels. |

That's certainly one spin.
Read both sides of the story, first is Viacom's(the version you heard), followed by Dish Central's:

| reply to cjynx If it was just 6 cents per subscriber don't you think Charlie would have signed the contract. Or do you think that Charlie would reimburse the subscribers $1 or $2 that have local CBS and the other Viacom channels? I for one don't see that. Channels were pulled from 15 or 16 markets. Now why is it that CBS is still broadcasting in about 90 other markets. Because, Viacom wants more money than what it is costing for the other 90 Markets. -- ELShock |

| Channels were pulled from *every* market, not 15 or 16. Those channels are the MTV, Nick, Comedy Central, and so on. The "15 or 16" markets affected have the local CBS station also owned by Viacom (Viacom owns "CBS TV", i.e. the network, local stations are like franchises in that they have the same 'name', but it's name only). The CBS station in my town is owned by Cox Communications and it's still being broadcast. |

| reply to BetaTech Personally my problem with good old Charlie is that he feels that these channels are not "important" enough as per his own words via a Charlie Chat. For those of us that have children, we know that while Nickelodeon may not be "important" to him...it is one of the few channels that will keep our kids interests.
When did he decided was was important for my family?
