There isn't an ISP that doesn't have a some part of their customer base that don't complain about something.
Sheesh, there are Bellsouth employees that come here and tell you that their helpdesk doesn't have a clue most of the time. -- Do you listen to Tangerine Dream? |

Speakeasy, come to Florida, please!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but speakeasy has not one but TWO add-on fees. One for USF, and the other hilarious one which basically reads: "cost recovery fee for doing paperwork we have to do by law". |

| Most ISP adds have this warning on their add page:
"Warning: the prices this company quote may not be INCLUSIVE OF UNIVERSAL SERVICE FEE! more information."
If you read the material linked to more information, you'll see why listing the exact charges that vary state by state would be impractical at best, and up to the ISP to maintain the page current, not DSLReports. See:
»Site FAQ »On the ISP listing pages I see a warning about USF |

| if an ISP has the balls to state an all-inclusive price, someone lets us know and that warning vanishes, and a radio light appears saying fees are "all inclusive".
the list of such ISPs is pretty small so far.

Yeah, cause this threads really smoking hot with great info.... I was just curious because I'm a little at a loss as to why you spend so much time attacking a company that doesn't even know you exist. |

The ATM cloud was toooo sloooow.... I guess it was weighted down with the over-pricing and bad lines...
As for as connection/line issues, BellSouth is NO better. They have never fixed my line... not since 1980 except for a few short periods after a repair. For 2.5 years, until I was able to get a Westell 2200, I had continuous DSL connection problems, particularly during rainy weather.
I reported the rainy condition. BS rolled truck after truck... only after the sun had been shining for two days. No problem. Right...
I only requested DSL be disconnected. The morons also disconnected my POTS... no dial tone now. Repair service said it is a line problem (right) and will be repaired by 6 PM tomorrow. Note; that is 36 hrs., if done by then. My new cable modem from Best Buy died after ~24 hrs. A round trip to BB, and 10 min. on the phone for the connection issue and I am back on line... ~2 hrs. is not bad for a cable connection issue... -- Dan |

If they don't know I exist, then that is just another reason I don't want HSI from them. |

The President called for "universal, affordable access to broadband technology by the year 2007," Bush said. "And then we ought to make sure as soon as possible thereafter consumers have plenty of choices."
Another LIE.
As long as Monopolies backed by the Government and allowing said Monopolies to get away with double talk "regulated recovery fees not mandated by a regulatory or Government entity", today's speech is 110% pure Bullcrap.
The U.S. will continue to slide down the Slow Speed Ladder compared to the rest of the world. We are currently 11th in deployment and dropping fast.
"It's important that we stay on the cutting edge of technological change, and one way to do so is to have a bold plan for broadband," he said. Bush did not elaborate on how he would accomplish the 2007 goal.
Federal Communications Commission (news - web sites) Chairman Michael Powell has pushed an agenda to reduce the regulations on telephone companies, which in the past have had to share their networks with rivals because of their dominance in serving homes.
"I look forward to working with my commission colleagues, Congress and the administration to deliver on this vision for the American people," Powell said in a statement.
Last year the agency decided that the dominant local telephone companies like BellSouth Corp. (NYSE:BLS - news) did not have to offer rivals access to new fiber optic lines -- key for full broadband deployment -- at low, government-mandated rates.
Congress has so far been unable to renew a ban on taxing the monthly fees that Internet providers like EarthLink Inc. (NasdaqNM:ELNK - news) charge customers. |

Good! The government shouldn't sponsor corporate gang rape. Likewise, the government shouldn't use *my* money to give bubba in hobunk broadband. The internet is available to anyone with phone service. Working toward universal broadband is a noble goal...however it shouldn't utilize federal tax dollars. |

Could not agree more. We seem held hostage to the giving back of that monopoly, and even then the track record shows we still might not get the end goal.
There is no such thing as regulatory certainty, unless you are no longer regulated. Should that be the price of FTTH?
All it will take to end this stupid game is someone to actually lead at one of these companies. I had hoped it would be VZ, I guess we'll see.
What an utter shame such a good network and now the internet is in these hands. |
