Re: So, Linksys can we get a word on BEFSR41 issues? Lets narrow the problem down and see if we can find any common factors. Everyone experiencing this problem should respond with the following:
Router make/model and firmare version ISP type and provider Cable Modem make/model
I will go first.
I have noticed that this problem has started about 3 weeks ago. I have the following:
Router BEFSR41 V2. w/1.45.7 and 1.44.2 ISP Cable/Comcast Modem Surfboard SB3100 |

I've been playing with BEFSR11 and BEFSR41 firmwares for a few years now....
I'd suggest that you not only look into the hardware/connection side of things, but also the type of use of the PC(s)/router/modem. For example, using eMule or BitTorrent will *always* hose a BEFSR41 in a reasonable short time (depending on the number of connections) requiring a power cycle to reconnect.

Re: So, Linksys can we get a word on BEFSR41 issue Linksys BEFSR41, original Firmware: 1.45.7 Comcast Cable, ex-attbi area 3Com Home Connect 3cr29220
- Started in last 2 weeks. Has happened about 5 times. - Rebooting modem alone doesn't fix it - Diag light has come on one time - MTU is disabled - Router is 4+ years old
When router stops functioning: - Cannot ping its LAN IP - Cannot access http router pages - Can seem to ping through to other parts of network - Power cycle of router fixes problem |

 | reply to x062pea BEFSR41 Version 2/v 1.40.2 Cable/Cox Surfboard SB3100 No problems whatsoever.
Originally had a Version 1 with v 1.33.1 which also didn't have any problems 'till my system took a lightening it.
Always been tempted to get the latest firmware but as their site says, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." After reading the posts in this thread, glad I never did.
I'm not a gamer and don't do much file sharing so this version works for me, YMMV. |

In recent weeks, I have had to pull the power plug on the router for a minute in order to reconnect the WAN connection (to the Internet).
However, I'd say it occurred about four times in the last month, and I'm online for about eight hours a day, working from home. |

I frequently have disconnected problems where the router loses the ip of the modem. I'm currently use 1.44.2z and was using 1.45.7 for only a couple of weeks. I'm worried that router is dying or is gonna fail. I use bitorrent and it disconnects if I use all the bandwidth. |

 | reply to x062pea i had disconnection problems running a dedicated game server,i switched cable modems from a motorola sb 4220 to a rca cable modem now befsr41 version3 works fine. |

I personally think that Cisco don't give a shit about what we think. |

 | I am thinking that Cisco is totally separate from Linksys. I don't think many people from Cisco came over to the linksys side. They just acquired them and let them continue as usual. |

mikehdWhat day is it?Premium join:2000-07-11 Lebanon, OR | reply to x062pea I've had my BEFSR41 V2 for over a year. Just last month (March) I started to have lots of instability problems. I had the 1.45.7 firmware since it's release last year. My instability problems ranged from loss of download speed (normally around 1200/400, bad cases around 60/200), synch loss on modem, constantly disconnecting/reconnecting.
Switched back to 1.44.2 firmware yesterday and have had consistent strong performance since. I was powercycling my router daily or more with the 1.45.7 fw. No powercycles since I reflashed it yesterday.

1 edit | reply to x062pea To X062Pea Sorry about the off topic reply but:
I had the Motorola SB3100 too. Upgrading to the SB5100 caused a serious speed increase on the following benchmark.
Was getting in the low 700s at best with the SB3100. Can get in the low 1000s with the SB5100. But these scores are only obtainable without the BEFSR41 router hooked up. |

Re: Linksys or RoadRunner Problem? I noticed a problem about 2-3 weeks ago but don't know if it's my Linksys Router or RoadRunner. I'm in the RoadRunner forum and they are posting problems with RoadRunner being slow for the past 2-3 weeks, so we might have problems there as well.
Router = Linksys BEFSR41 V3, firmware 1.04.17 ISP = Cable/RoadRunner in Columbus, Ohio Modem = Surfboard 5100
Just went to the Linksys web site and on 4/1/04 they released firmware version 1.5 I'm going to upgrade to that and see what happens.
Before I upgrade to firmware version 1.5 maybe I should ask if anybody else has upgraded to it, and did it help at all?
As a reminder, the RoadRunner Forum is posting slow downs in RoadRunner that seem to be affecting the Eastern portion of the country.
One thing that seems strange to me about the Linksys BEFSR41 setup is that there doesn't appear to be a Log Out button. All I do is click the Apply button and surf to another page. Am I missing something? |
