| SpeedStream 5637 ENET and USB Lights Stays On
I recently signed up with a local DSL provider that sent me a SpeedStream 5637 DSL router. I have a static IP address that I still don't know what that is yet... I plugged everything in and Windows picks up a IP address, the PWR, DSL and ENET lights are lit green, but couldn't get any ping. I tried it on my brother's laptop which he is successfull connecting with Bellsouth DSL just fine at his apt. So, he suggested that I press the reset button in the back. Now, the ENET adn USB lights stays lit and the DSL light isn't.
I cannot ping the router anymore. I've tried unplugging for 20s, tried leaving it on for 1 hour, tried removing all cables except power, tried USB cable instead, tried starting it why holding down the reset button and still this darn thing isn't initializing. I don't have a console cable nor am I able to get to it from a browser. Is some secret to resetting it? I've completely exhuasted any ideas... |

| This is the only article on the Efficient Knowledge Base for that Model number. I cannot find a user guide.
5637 Customer Release Notes »kb.efficient.com/article.asp?art···19&p=351
They are obsolete and no longer supported from what I can tell.
»Speestream 5637 Console Cable »Problems config speedstream 5637
I cannot find any info on the LED Status. Sorry.

This part just sunk in after re-reading your post....
Why would you wipe out the settings if it was working??? Pressing reset on any DSL Modem is a "last refuge" and not the first thing to do, especially if it works with any other DSL service. Your service may not be fully provisioned yet and that's why it worked where DSL service was active at your Brothers.
Your Brother's advice was the opposite of what it should have been and it may very well have ruined the pre-setup programming your ISP has done and in *some* DSL modems if you don't follow the Manufacturers steps exactly for using the reset it does erase the Flash memory requiring a replacement modem. Each DSL Modem model has it's own *very* specific steps for a proper reset. Any other use of the reset is usually devastating.
These (attached above) files ~~may~~ help as the 5637 is somewhat similar to a 5667 since they both have a USB port, a console port and the old style case.

| reply to Xanthis Try this out as I have similar modem
Leave the modem without plugging in the phone line to the DSL port on the modem
Once the ethernet LED flashes wait 1 minute and plug in the telephone cable to the DSL port
It's recommended that once you get the signal you never turn off your modem
Resetting the modem reset the modem's configuration settings and have to use a serial cable to configure it |
