Anon | DOWN WITH GTE INTERNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had recently purchased a DSL account from GTE. Unfortunately I did not come to this site ahead of time. I decided to go with GTE for my isp. They promised me that I would be up and running on the 19th of April. On the 20th I tried to obtain an ip address with no luck. I called GTE Internetworking to find out what the problem was. After sitting on hold for about 45-50 minutes someone finally picked up. After explaining my problem to them they told me that a technician would get back to me in two to three days. After six days without one single phone call from anyone on their end I decided to call back. When the so called support person on the other end told me that he could not find any kind of service ticket I was furious. He then told me the technician would call me in two to three days. Again no call back from anyone. I then decided to cancel my account with GTE and go with Earthlink/Sprint. Hopefully dealing with them will be seamless and not a giant headache like trying to deal with GTE. YOU ARE HEREBY WARNED!!!! |

Anon | GTE-i performance is VERY regional
To the person posting the "warning" about GTE-i - I'll bet you live in southern California. I am yet to see a good review for GTE-i in that area.
Here in Washington, they get mixed reviews; although mostly positive there are a few horror stories.
I have no idea how a company, which uses a central "coordination" center to handle DSL orders, can have such a variation in quality in two different areas. Maybe the techs here get different training? No idea.
Anyway - my Bronze+ DSL works fantastic! I've only lost service twice in 4 month (much better than my old dial-up), both times it was a problem on their end, and I was up and running again within 4 hours. |

Anon | Consider yourself one of the lucky ones. I am in the process of obtaining a DSL account with Earthlink who uses GTE for thier connection. But wouldn't you know it, Earthlink requested a line from GTE on the 8th of this month but the bastards at GTE rejected it saying I already have a line that is active. The funny thing is that I cancelled the account on the 3rd but GTE tries to tell me that they released the line on the 27th of May. How do you release a line that has not even been cancelled yet? Once again GTE has screwed me putting an even longer hold on an account that has taken to long to begin with. By the time GTE gets thier s*@! together everyone in America will have fiber optic lines running to thier houses!!! |

Anon | reply to Anon hmm, i live in southern california - i've had dsl for several months (almost a year). i got the bronze+ package... no complaints whatsoever - works as advertised (i'm a unix geek, though, so YMMV insomuch as i've never had to call customer service).
I'd recommend it... |
