Stars?

Maybe I've missed something, but I'm not seeing any stars by the avatars any more. What changed?

You can view your Stars right here in the Forum Preferences Page, also it seems we are going by "Levels" now, you are now at level (7).

The stars were really limiting as they only showed up to level 8. Now you can see where you truely rank. Plus since they have stopped spinning they looked like pentagrams anyhow.

This sudden disappearance of the stars should really come as no surprise. I remember reading a thread in which Justin posted an ominous comment alluding to the probability that the stars would soon be going bye-bye entirely. He was, I believe, speaking to the uproar that was raised when the stars quit spinning. So if anyone knows when that was... that's when the first warning "shot was fired across the bow", so to speak. Actually, I'm kinda surprised it took this long for them to be discontinued.

I'm still trying various searches, but so far no luck.

As they say, you learn something new everyday..after reading justin See Profile's post, I realized that removed/disappeared has the same meaning as "new ones".

Nope... it was/is much older than that... I've just spent the past hour or so going through old Feature Request postings.... the stars quit spinning somewhere around the 1st of Dec. 2003... I need to check some of the other forums. It's driving me nuts, because I know I read it, and now I can't find it. I just remember Justin strongly hinting that stars were not long for this world, sitewise that is.

Perhaps Justin could make the stars an option in "I see people". Perhaps even a choice between static and spinning. Just as I prefer an analog speedometer to a digital, and a clock with hands to one with digits, I prefer seeing the graphical stars rather than the numeric level. Faster and easier for my brain to process.

Re: Stars?

Maybe this was already brought up, but you can still see your stars on the Forum Preferences page.

My guess would be that if you change your forum prefs at all and cause the server to update... that will probably go away. Or Justin & Co. just haven't gotten around to making those programming changes, yet! I wouldn't expect that situation to remain too much longer.

The preview there should reflect what is actually visible, but with the onset of I See People, you don't control what other people can see, except maybe, in the default view.

In any case... I think it's a short-lived phenomenon. I wouldn't count on it being that way in a week or two.

Levels don't help much since regular members can't see them....

I'd be more than willing to shell out 10 dollars...but it isn't really worth it now that the blue star is gone (bad excuse i know )

Be Creative like other BBR users have done with their account -- »I need some stars, please.
