 | reply to yvliew It look like the company that owns the copyright on Charmed, says your downloading there property and they reported you to Comcast.
Comcast wants you to remove that work, and you need to contact them and let them know what you are going to do. -- Terry D. |

1 edit | reply to yvliew Don't reply, but remove any copyrighted material you have obtained illegally, and keep it that way. Replying could imply a legal admission of guilt but IANAL, you should seek legal advice -- »www.moveon.org |

 | I think we need to be careful here about what kind of advice that we give.
If he does the wrong thing because of advice we give him,and they sue him that's not to good.
They want to here from (Comcast)even if you say you didn't do it. -- Terry D. |

"or Comcast will be forced to remove or block access to the works"
Easiest way for them to do that is probably to cancel your account. I probably wouldn't ignore them. Just me. |

 | reply to yvliew I would guess that the copyright owner (probably Spelling Entertainment) actually wastes their money-along with other people's time- paying people to get on different p2p networks and look for things they own. All they have to do is start downloading the file and note the IP addresses that it's coming from. From there, it's a trivial matter to find out what ISP or whoever owns that IP address. Send out a form letter with info about the file to the ISP. Then you get a letter from your ISP. Just stop sharing that particular file and tell Comcast you did it. And don't worry, Aaron Spelling doesn't actually know your name |

1 edit | reply to yvliew Why do people keep saying delete the file? Just stop sharing it. Just having the file is nothing more than time shifting, which the Supreme Court said is fair use in the Sony v. Universal case. Actually, I'm surprised they would bother doing this over a tv show since you couldn't buy the show if you wanted to. |

yvliew join:2002-05-13 Renton, WA | Yeah, if we can't keep a tv show file, "recording" shouldn't exist. ???? Anyway, I'm still not sure whether to reply to comcast. I don't have the file in my computer. |

Join a torrent for a file some time and if you want to, you can see the IP addresses that are currently attached to the torrent and supplying sections of the file to you.
There is no way to hide this information. If you are taking the file, someone is supplying pieces of it, and there is nothing to prevent someone who is taking it from squealing on any or all of those who are supplying it. |

| reply to a Bad Man What they are scared of, in part, is foreign markets that buy runs of a successful show much, much later than it airs in north america. If those markets already have the shows via file sharing then their incentive to purchase for broadcast diminishes. That and it's gotten very trendy to bust copyright infringers. |

Yes but "squealing" has nothing to do with it. It's simply that BT uploads chunks of the file as you download. So with BT as long as you are downloading..you are also uploading so when you upload a chunk to one of the robot comps that the copyright holder has connected to download you get nabbed. -- Forum Posts:4100 |

Actually, there are several TV shows that you CAN buy. Successful shows will show up on DVD and VHS while still in production or long after they have run their course. You can currently buy copies of "Frasier" and "Friends" episodes. "MASH" is another one that comes to mind. The second season of Frasier is even available for RENT at my local video store. -- I'll take "Things Only I Would Know" for $10,000 Alex. |
