ISP's need to increase download speeds and GET RID of caps.
Even if these movies were compressed to 50% DVD quality, they would still be ~2GB+. For the average cable user, that is 1/15th of their monthly download limit, just for 1 file.
For most DSL users who have 1.5mbit or less, this file would take a while to download. Even 3mbit would have to have a few hours.

dadkins Can you do Blu? Premium,MVM join:2003-09-26 Hercules, CA | reply to Omega Yeah, this cap BS is going to hamper deployment. Also, the compressed video is OK...I guess. Kinda reminds me of a mediocre(sp) VHS recording...but it's a start. |

It is possible to stream DivX, but it is a CODEC that is meant for archival. Things get UGLY when you try to stream it - instead, look into NSV. It is a wavelet compression CODEC (VP3.x and VP6.x) that makes extremely small files and is streamable rather easily with the same quality. (And it is free)
Now why am I bringing this up?
Too many "video on demand" places are too busy trying to imitate - not innovate. ;> Newer, better, faster means are HERE and are FREE no less... -- Nothwest Arkansas' ONLY all Techno Radio Webcast, powered by SBC DSL! |

Me either, not until download speeds are raised and they stop the invisible caps. -- pocketpc.bluepapaya.net |

| reply to wolfox there's already services which offer downloadable movies (although I can't find the link) for $2.99. You download the movie, hold it for 30 days and can watch it for a 24/hr period. Then again, if you have 3mbit lines, you can stream movies at a very high quality with divx/xvid compression. |

| Check out the community on »www.winamp.com Look for the Shoutcast forum, then click the link that takes you to "Nullsoft Streaming Video". That should answer your questions for the moment - but as you play with it, you will have more. Extremely beta stuff, but I have been successfully playing with it for over a month now. -- Nothwest Arkansas' ONLY all Techno Radio Webcast, powered by SBC DSL! |

Be it DSL or Cable, hell, even FTTH, they won't lift caps for this. |
