I can tell you unequivocally that DSL will die as soon as the phone is disconnected. I have IFITL (PCDATA) which does not use the phone carrier but a separate fiber and some prankster called in a cancellation on my telephone (POTS) service a couple of weeks ago. I noticed the lost IFITL before I got a call on the cell from a friend telling me they got a message that my phone had been disconnected.
Called customer service and BS had service restored in 10 minutes.
