| Final Comments on Privacy Control
This thread called JUNKBUSTER REVIEW contains in the first post links that tie in all the threads about these types of applications and their tests and reviews. For further information, go there to start your own personal voyage into privacy enhancement.
After all this testing and reviewing, I have concluded that Proxomitron is the clear winner in this arena of Privacy control. Unlike any other tool, Proxomitron gets to the heart of privacy, the HTML code itself. Domains and IPs cannot fool Proxomitron. This is a major plus. Because of the way Proxo works, it is virtually unstoppable. And with the default config file I have provided, one is capable of starting their own personal total privacy control immediately.
Not only does Proxo block anything you want 100% of the time, but used with my config file, you no longer have to maintain a privacy tool constantly anymore. You see, Proxo lets the user move onto other Security areas like Anti-Trojans, learning about IP networks, anything you want! Proxo frees the user from worrying about Privacy and lets the user learn about anything else.
But the nice part of Proxo is, it enables the user to learn about Privacy like no other tool before. Why? Like I said, Proxo works with raw HTML code, and you learn quickly how sites try to install cookies for instance. And the list goes on... pop-ups, pop-unders, ActiveX, you name it, you learn it thanks to Proxo. And it leaves no room for wasting time either, Proxo is efficient, and the user learns and adapts quickly, just like Proxo itself.
So for anyone wanting to free themselves and learn about anything else, then Proxo is for you. It is almost like a "set and forget" type of application.
And if a new privacy threat is found, we as a team or anywhere on the net can setup a filter immediately and get it working instantly. Or, you can do it yourself!
The power of complete privacy control is now realized, and the name is PROXOMITRON.
At this time, I like to thank everyone for their time while I reviewed the tools and shared my experience with you. I appreciate the time and comments that you have shared with me.
I thank everyone for letting me get real about privacy, and finding what works best for me. This of course works best for me, but may not work best for you. How can you tell? Just try out the applications, and you'll find the comfort level that best fits your privacy control.
Good luck and thanks everyone! -- »All your Smurf are belong to Smurf! »Ad/Cookie Blocking App Reviews |

| Zhenn, thank you very much. I now have a new favorite in the security support collection. Sure, there's the ever present privacy concern and the ad blocking bit, but web bugs, scripts and controls that act a lot like trojans, and on down the line makes web filtering a critical part of security, today. Proxomitron, I agree, leads the pack. It leads because it not only allows the user to control cookies and IP access lists, but it allows the user to control exactly what can be done with their computer via a www session.
You did a lot of work, and I, for one, deeply appreciate the time you've spent and the contribution you've made. Thanks.
Proxomitron wins with me, too. I've informally tried a lot of filtering apps, and they were either too restrictive, too hard to use, too easy to bypass, just too slllooowww... Proxomitron feels just right, and it can be adjusted to be as restrictive or as open as you want. From what I can tell so far, there isn't much Proxomitron can't do. And it's easy to use, after you get going. I'm converted. It's a regular part of my arsenal, now.

| I agree gwion. This App. is all you could want and more. I didn't think I would ever be able to get it to work, but with Z-X's previous leg work and some personal support, I am now using Proxomitron like I've been doing it forever. It's a winner. I hope you know how much all your hard work is appreciated by those of us using Proxomitron, and those who aren't. Thank you Zhen-Xjell. -- Help Us Find The Cure! DSL Reports Team Helix |

| From what I have read in the Proxomitron reviews here at DSLr it should be compatible with just about any browser.

| Yes we can set you up to "exclude" sites. We'll have to figure out which filter is being used and modify it to check a file for exclusions. This should be easy.
As for a cookie being allowed through? Most likely a filter is not enabled. Can you share the site you went to and I will investigate?

| I went to sports.com 1st. But then i went back to both doubleclick sites and doubleclick.com got through. So how can i configure Proxo to allow Windows Updates page to load. I still have no idea how Proxo works. I just followed the instructions on the Proxo site. Downloaded 3b first and 4 Beta. Installed them and copied your config file into the beta versions file. Another question does Proxo start at machine boot up. -- Judgedredd |

| Interesting, do you have your proxy configured? I went to sports.com and visited many pages, then went to doubleclick.com and couldn't get past the first page because of my configuration.
Open your log window when going to doubleclick, do you get this in purple:
Match 8503: Proxo Indicator BlockList 8503: in AdList, line 58 Match 8503: Kill JavaScript Banners Match 8503: Disable JavaScript (and meta) cookies Match 8503: Disable JavaScript (and meta) cookies

| reply to Zhen-Xjell Z-X,
Based off your testing and advice I have decided to give Proxomitron a try. Hopefully, it will allow me to eliminate at least two other utilities (Cookie Wall and Popup Killer) that I have been running.
Questions (using your default.cfg file):
1. For some reason, the text output on DSLR has changed. Is this based off of a setting in the .cfg?
2. I notice that a lot of the configurations are stored in .txt files (CONFIG > BLOCK FILES). Do you also have samples of these files that you would be willing to share; particularly the ad-related files?
3. If the answer to 2 above is no, do you know of an easy method to transfer the information stored in the HOSTS file to the appropriate Block File? (Ie, *.akamaitechnologies.com)
4. For host names that have more than three parts (ie, www.dslreports.com [server.domain.tld] is typical, whereas a.r.tv.com is not), do you need to create multiple filters to exclude based off the number of parts? Ie: a.r.tv.com = *.tv.com and/or *.*.tv.com?)
5. It seems that the filters are based off *nix's Regular Expressions. For those of us that are RegEx Impaired, do you know where we could find some simplistic explanation for us to get a better grasp of the concepts? -- The only value an Opinion has is the one You give it. |

From what I have read, it does not. However, simply put a shortcut to it in your startup folder and it should suffice. -- The only value an Opinion has is the one You give it. |

| reply to Hutch Judgedredd, that is great. I'm glad you have the cookie thing working now. As for the windows update page, we'll get something together. R2 had asked once about this for ActiveX filtering, and I found a neat exclusion trick. Here is the link that starts up the discussion... a couple posts down you'll see the trick in bold: »WildCatBoy -- how did I do this?
Until I get some time to check it out later today, you can always temporarily put the site into your bypasslist, or your can try the info from the link above. It talks about ActiveX, but it can be applied to this as well. -- »All your Smurf are belong to Smurf! »Final thoughts on Privacy Control Applications |
