Proxo Naoko-4 (Beta 4) Cfg. Startup BypassList

Hello fellow Proxomitron Naoko-4 (Beta 4) users!!!

The reason for my starting this thread is because there have been many Proxo 'newbies' (such as myself!) that have been having difficulty on the proper configurations for setting up and using a Bypass list with Proxo.

I shall not go into any other details here because there is plenty here posted at the Security forum on this program already and I would only be repeating what is already heard here.

--------

Well let me start out by getting started with the bypass list setup configuration and activation.

1. Open Proximitron

2. Select the Config (located under Edit Filters)

3. Select the Startup tab and enter: $LST(BypassList) in the Bypass any URL's that match this expression box. Click Ok

4. Now make sure you have a copy of Zhen-Xjell BypassList.txt file loaded into the Proximitron default directory. This file has www.dslreports.com as the first and only entry. If you don't have it I suggest to get it there now. It is found at number 5 at the 'Useful links' section below. This is critical! You can now add additions as you prefer, or exclude this from the list and supplement it later. I would suggest to leave it there for now that you may properly test upon completion of this addition.

5. Click on the Config tab again then the Blockfile tab.

6. Click on Add, then look in the Proxomitron directory for the BypassList.txt file that you just had added. This should default to the ListFile column on the right side, it is found beneath the Blockfile/Block List Configuration title bar. You can now give it a name to the left of it's listing. Let's call it ByPassList!

7. Click on Ok.

That's it you're done. Congratulations!!!

Test your new configuration!:

Don't forget to save your new configuration then reload Proxo. You should be able to tell if it is working if the word '(proxy)' is not found in the title bar of your browser. To test click on any link within DSLr providing it is a link found within the DSLr site, and see if it loads '(proxy)' as part of the title bars address.

Useful links:

1. "The Proxomitron - A Universal Filter" homepage.

2. To view the Yahoo Groups Proxomitron Support Club click here.
It is here that you can find the answers to many of your configuration questions, etc...

3. Zhen-Xjell's default configuration file click here.

4. Here is a link to "The Proximitron Help Page" .

5. The BypassList.txt file compliments of Zhen-Xjell.

6. "The Proximitron Beta Page", includes instructions for installation of Naoko-4 (Beta 4).

7. The following quote from the 'Proxo Meister' himself:

said by Zhen X-Jell:
"The power of complete privacy control is now realized, and the name is PROXOMITRON." heard here
Let me tell you this has been a very rewarding experience for me. I have been following all of the threads that are currently available here at DSLr with utter eagerness to learn how to use this program effectively. And, amazingly I don't have any need for using the Windows/hosts list as a standard to block out ads any longer. This program does it all. Amazing?

Kudo's, Kudo's, Kudo's!!!

Special thanks to Zhen-Xjell. He has been very very helpful in assisting not just me, but many others here at this forum toward a better understanding of the effiency of this program. It is because of him that I was able to set the proper configurations to my setup of Proxomitron - A Universal Filter! And it was by his urging that prompted me to submit this post. I hope that someone benefits from this post, as we all try to continue to learn this program.

- Let's pass it on that others may benefit as well....

*Thanks Z-X!!!

Very nice cjsmith!
Great for newbies looking to try this program.
I almost passed on it thinking no way I could get this to work.
Boy am I glad I didn't!
I hope everyone gives this a try. They will find all they could want in surfing privacy here.

VERY NICE Post cjsmith! Just one question, I've never seen Proxo V4 add (proxy) to the title bar of my browser. It appears to be working, and I know the bypasslist is working, because the text isn't as big when I'm in DSLR. But a VERY good post! YEA!

Many succeed. Many just get to that first syllable in the word "succeed."

Sante Fe, you haven't seen the "(proxy)" added to the title bar of a filtered page? I have the code in my default cfg file, if you download it and take a look, the filter is called Proxomitron Indicator I believe.

Found it, guess I forgot to unzip it into the Proxy folder! Added it, it now works correctly on every web page I try, except my home page, home.excite.com . No problem though, just added that to the bypass list as well.

I promise Z-X, I won't be any more trouble.

Santa Fe: You might want to uncheck "user agent" under headers if you have that checked. There's some cute mumbo jumbo in that filter which won't tell the web page what browser you're using. As a result, though, some pages won't display correctly. Try disabling the filter and see if it works for you.

Tried it. took out my home.excite.com in bypassfile list, tried unchecking user agent, and re-booted. Nope. Oh well, Added my home page back & now it's working again. I just seem to be attracted to weird problems! Thanks sig & Z-X!!!!!

You don't need to reboot. But what you may have to do is have us work with in to find out which filter is causing your homepage to make it look different. Then we can just include an exception file.
