Galaxy's Response

On your first complaint, where Galaxy does not give out DSL router passwords:
Your router is actually owned by Network Access Solutions, and not Galaxy. NAS refuses to give Galaxy the router passwords, which is (unfortunately) within their rights. However, you are right in that the end result is that individuals cannot reconfigure their router on their own (although Galaxy will have NAS do any reconfigurations that you'd like, just give our tech support a call).

On your second complaint, where Galaxy's mail (POP3) server is slow:
This complaint was completely valid. We've received it from other people, as well. That's why we upgraded our POP3 server about a month ago, and the results have been excellent. Please contact tech support if email still seems to be slow for you.

Your third complaint; Galaxy's DNS is slow:
We generally have had no complaints regarding DNS speed. If you are having problems, please contact tech support. If it turns out that there are speed related issues with the DNS servers themselves, we will look into upgrading them. Galaxy as a rule does not try to save a few pennies by not upgrading older servers; that's just not our policy. We'd much rather have satisfied customers.

Your last complaint, regarding NNTP servers:
It is true that we offer no NNTP service. This decision was made based on several factors, such as the existence of free news-to-web gateways such as »groups.google.com, the fact that NNTP has been decreasing in popularity in comparison to the WWW, as well as the significant expense in maintaining one's own NNTP server. We apologize for those of you who miss this service, but it is reasonably unlikely that we will set up an NNTP server in the future. :-(

I hope that all of this has helped to clear things up.

Hrum

How were you able to get the service for only $50? I moved to Hudson about a month ago and it was going to cost me $130/m for the 128k/128k? ADSL? how? Verizon refuses to service Hudson although their CO is wired and fully equiped. Got to love the monopoly world we live on.

service not available?

i'm moving to hudson in august and have found absolutely NO ONE will offer service there for some reason. i was psyched when i saw that galaxy offered the service but when i called i was told that they "partnered with verizon" and if verizon didn't offer it (they don't) then galaxy wouldn't either. i asked if they would check to see if the number is available for service anyway and they did, but said it wasn't available. i am going to be awfully pissed if i have to spend $100 a month on 400kbps satellite-based direcway, but if there is nothing else i have no other option (dial-up is not an option).

can someone contact me please? jordan.buser@hp.com or 508.467.4907. the phone number of the place i am moving into is 978-567-XXXX

thanks,

jordan

Re: service not available?

Moved to Hudson from Framingham in May. ATT is planning to provide broadband cable in 6 months. They also sent me a letter saying the cable channel line up will change to accomodate for this service. So it may not be too far off.

Old promo

When I signed up a few years back, they had a promotion for 128/128 SDSL service for $39/mo ("business class service at residential rate"). That went away a long time ago, and they've raised the rates at $59, but it appears they've grandfathered me in since everything still works. If they try to raise it one more time I'm leaving, as there are a lot more options these days (well, with the recent FCC decision, who knows how long that will last).
