Belgacom Turbo Line

dear mike.

It surprise me your message, but then again I have not your sort of Turbo line. I have also my subscription with Belgacom Skynet and installed a ADSL turbo line since May last year but then only the go and it works perfectly. At least it worked perfectly until they encountered problems with the International router who broke down and now they are problems not big ones with the change of DANA server to Redtack server so that they can cope with the succes that ADSL has whereas watching movies are as good as no possibility at any speed right now and that one goes up to 750 kbps. To me that seems a good service when it works that they have upgraded this speed from 300 kpbs to 750 kbps fully free for everyone who has a Turbo line Go subscription and an monthly free internet use of 10 Mb up from 3 Mb also free of charge.
In my case I can only hope that their upgrade from DAna to redtack is done as soon as possible which seems even if they have said to be finished all over Belgium by the mid of january is not as the case as I saw myself when I tested my line with this site, namely dslreports. I'm not a unix user then only home use and Microsoft Internet Explorer and thus yes Windows Me. But with me I can only be happy with the service from my provider Belgacom Skynet and the Turbo line Go because they do their utmost best to solve the problems within themselves as soon as possible so that the customers would get the maximum out of their speed as they have paid for. When you look at my problems that I had since installing the ADSL then they are nothing compared with the months of use already now.

So I hope it can be resolved somehow with you as well soon. But for me I would say stay with Belgacom because they are thrustworthy and will do their utmost best.
Question: who has installed your ADSL? Was it someone of Belgacom self or a private compagny they hire for doing the Job. With me everything was installed by a Belgacom employee self and he did a very good job. But the earlier ISDN connection that I got before ADSL was installed through a private affiliation to Belgacom and yes even that person I have no complaints at. So maybe I don't know. Maybe they are overworked by the succes of ADSL. But I'm sure they do whatever they can to give their customers the best service possible in the shortest time possible. After all they are not G-d, no?

Re: Belgacom Turbo Line

Dear Hannah7733,

the line was installed by a Belgacom technician. I've talked with some friends yesterday evening and it looks like several DSL installs in my town have huge problems (speed, disconnects, not working). I've seen the problem one of my friends has, it looks like he's connecting with a 19200 bps modem.

Back to my own problem, they're supposed to come again on Friday to fix it. This time will be their last intervention, if it's not fixed by 3PM I give the router back and cancel my subscription. And they better not burden me with legalese or try to bill me!

I've had some contacts with Easynet recently and I've discovered they have the *right* level of service. When I called them for some infos, they forwarded me to one of their seasoned sysadmin. That guy was able to answer every questions I had. Easynet also supports all common OS's (Unices, Mac, Windows, BeOS) and are willing to help configure your machines. Major Kudos to Easynet!

The funny thing is they cost less (not much) than TurboLine, and their conditions specify that you don't have to pay for overuse of bandwidth (if it is for a reasonable cause).

Mike

ps: I'll try to post an update on Friday if it's working or on Monday if not.

Dear Friends,
As this site becomes more international, there are a couple of things that may seem strange to US citizens.
Obviously, no contract to which one of the parties was not informed as to its contacts is valid, under Anglo-American common law. Under jus romanum, or basic European law, this is not so. One's partner may say, sign , or not. Part of the doctrine of caveat emptor.
Another side to this, which positively destroyed any chance my wife(native Ami) had of living in Europe permanently, was lack of implied warranty. If one purchase a motorcar, and it does not work, too bad. After attempts to make repairs, required by contract, no dealer or manufacturer is required to stand by the product. Likewise, the entire idea of customer service is lacking, throughout Europe. In Belgium, "Le client est roi," is fine as a slogan, but no state or former state monopoly takes it seriously. Most businesses feel no obligation, in my experience, to satisfy customer needs.
Most unbelievably, there are fair trade laws which prohibit, yes, you all read that right, prohibit customer bargaining, after a point, and real competition, such as we find here, does not exist. With autos, in Germany, it used to be six percent under the MSRP!!! Clearance sales? When and under the conditions prescribed by the business-beholden government.
The point for us at DSLR:
Even with the privatisation of European telcos, the old attitudes remain. Because of the interlocking boards of banks and other corporations, illegal in the US, most wealth, and almost all political power is held in few hands.
Without wishing to insult another poster, the idea that people can be overworked by success is very foreign to us here, but, the attitude, "They are doing their best," frightens me. Why?
Covad had to fight the telco for me. With every step toward telco DSL being the winning combo, we slide closer to the European monopoly mentality. If one is limited to telco DSL, on line sharing, because it is the only way profitable for the telco we are back in either late nineteenth century USA, or state-run Europe. Few would be happy to see that. Those few are the executives and boards members(who clearly prefer to relax than to work) of the companies which stand to profit.
Let the Chrysler debacle be a warning shot. The entire mentality of megalithic corporations, seen so clearly in those two posts will arrive here, unless we make sure, by hounding the our PUCs, that it does not.
Victory in New York,»www.dps.state.ny.us/fileroom/doc9164.pdf? Almost. Real competition? A little better that BT, DT, or Belgacom. Until there is a second infrastructure in place, there is no real threat to the telcos. Looking at Europe, we see an extreme example of the case here.
Line sharing? The death of real DSL. Why? Because, like in Europe, it means one needs to see, touch, hear from, or in some other shape or form have contact with, the incumbent.
When Verizon offers me a clean DSL line, with no need for phone service attached, at the same or similar prices to Covad, then there is competition. In the meantime, Covad's buckling to reality is a rational economic decision, giving their capital funding, and, more importantly, the inability of us, through our government, to insist upon real competition.
Otherwise we have Belgacoms.

Same old theme.
All good wishes,
Yazdzik

I'm sorry to hear that some customers are still having problems with their Turbo Line.
I work for the Belgacom Business Customers Helpdesk. I sell their products every day. I know that there have been some problems in the past (due to external reasons and the enormous succes of Turbo Line). Most of these problems should be history now.
If you have any problems, using you Turbo Line, you can always contact me. I'll try to solve them.
