| Hmmm... Just an observation, but does it seem like many users who have these types of problems also have difficulty communicating clearly? Perhaps that contributes to the original problem? I'll grant that dealing with Bellsouth support can be a frustrating exercise, but ineffective communication may not be helping matters. | |

By almost 3 times as fast, you mean twice as fast? =

Also, you only get 3MB with cable when everything is perfect and no one else is on your node hogging bandwidth. You get your 1.5MB with DSL consistently. I'll take that over cable any time.

I am hoping Speaakeasy comes into my area. I want that PPPoE-free Static IP so I can practice some serious networking setup at home.
Until then, Bellsouth is the deal for me.

| Re: "...1.5 256mbit forever!" Mediacom is not 1.5 download. Mediacom is 3.0 download and 256 upload. The only reason Mediacom charges for additional IP is cause you need to use a router. Bellsouth modem acts as a router(misnamed "bridge"). Router will provide DHCP services to assign IP address. For better understanding of DHCP, please research it. Bellsouth requires a one year agreement for their equipment when Mediacom does not require anything. The modem to purchase from any store is only about $40. The router is about $80 for a decent model. There are cheaper models. This is not intended to say Bellsouth is not a good service, but just to clarify facts. | |
