TROUBLE

@telocity.com

I burned them!

My credit card company gave me all my $ back. so that means I got a router and 2 months of crappy service free!

Re: I burned them!

Try @HOME cable service through Comcast (AT&T). I just signed up for them and have had great speed and connections. When they installed the system, the installer did have to go through 2 modems before finding one that worked. He said that they do have a problem with them constantly. Once installed, the only thing they didn't do properly was set my internet connections. They set my Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings to Use Automation Configuration Script (with an address), when they should ALSO checked the Automatically Detect Settings. Once I checked this box, my speed increased by 30-40%!!

PSN bent me over

I had a similar experience with PSN.net. Originally I signed up for a 12 month contract for $40/month. After three months of ineptness on their part (Ameritech partly to blame as well) the "outside wiring" was supposedly completed, although I still did not have service. At this point, they charged my credit card the full $730 for the whole year even though the inside wiring wasn't completed. After another month and still no service, I cancelled my order and was told that I would receive a full refund within 3-5 business days. After about 2 weeks my credit card was not credited yet so I called again. They said they had no record of me cancelling before. So I told them to cancel me again. Shortly thereafter, it was impossible to reach anyone at PSN as all the phone lines were disconnected or just busy signals. Around the end of the year, I found out they had gone bankrupt, and I hadn't gotten my money back. So I called my credit card company and filed a complaint about it. It turned out that since I never received service, they treated it as outright fraud. They gave me back the full $730 plus finance charges for carrying a balance on the card. It appears I was one of the lucky ones to have bad experiences with PSN.

After the refund from my credit card, I signed up with Earthlink. It took them about 3 months to get the line activated, but now it is very fast (1500/320) which is faster than they advertised. So I'm happy now and would recommend Earthlink to someone who wants a stable and fast connection.
