I am sure that $17 fee does not include the circuit, which gets billed to the end-user's phone bill. This common "bandwidth only" setup is fairly common.

If the customer isn't paying the $32.50 for the circuit, it's probably a billing mistake on the part of Verizon. But if everything is billed correctly, it would be more like $49 total plus taxes.

I guess you havent looked at this elusive web site that you are referring to »www.keyway.net/keyway/gte-account-dsl.html . Bronze plus dsl service is $17.50. If you want to add Verizon telco costs to it, that is fair. Why not also add a little more to cover the Edison electric side, and a little more to cover your coffee and donuts! You might wind up with the 70 bucks that you are talking about.

Re: No way- bull hunkey

He obviously should have added in the telco charges. The true comparable cost of DSL service is the line plus the monthly service fee from the provider.

Where is San Dimas? So Cal I would imagine but what part?

Keyway as a news provider

Without going into the obvious fact that nobody is providing any form of DSL at $17 a month, Keyway was my upstream news provider for the last two years of my having Comstock Net as ISP of record. Now I've got the same email address but Comstock (a tiny local ISP in Rialto, CA) was bought out by UIA.net (Ultimate Internet Access, connected somehow to Cyberg8) and my news server changed from Keyway to Supernews.com. Keyway was the absolute pits by comparison. A shorter expire time and only a fraction of the multipart binaries ever made it through. I've been getting my news from Supernews since August 2000 so it is remotely possible Keyway has improved but I would not consider their service until I had tried almost every other possibility. If my attempt to get DSL from EarthLink falls through, I am going to try UIA, at a higher price, just so I can keep Supernews.com. Almost 100% perfect distribution of multiparts, something I never even realized was possible.

he should have added the telco charges.....

Sorry folks, I disagree. We're rating ISP's here, not telcos. The ISP has little choice over the telco line charges, but a lot of choice over what IT charges.

I don't care about the telco charge, largely because its a given. The ISP charge is something else, though.

The $17 is, in fact, Keyway's charge. They're worth that, and more, IMHO.

Is Verizon worth $35.00 or whatever? Nope. But I've no choice.

Actually, I'm happy as ^)&^* that I have DSL at all, so I shouldn't complain even at the Verizon charge. After all, I can *always* go back to DUN.

NOT!!
