It seemed like you are a grandchild of Rip van Winkle (LOL). Sprint came up with the XT1 for $99.99 early this year. Plus $5 fee, it total $104.99.

| My ION upload was 630k, now between 100-200k
I'm also in Colorado, and when my ION was first installed in late March 2001, I was consistently getting 630k upload. Now it has gotten much slower, and like you I'm worried that Sprint will just effectively say "tough luck!". My download has also changed from a consistent 3.9 Meg to a consistent 3.3 Meg (that's not really a big deal to me) which shows that something fundamental has changed somewhere.

Yes, I think you have a legitimate complaint. However, before drawing final conclusion, use a real-world upload/upload to test it in additional to the "bandwidth meter". It is true that the sites might be outside Sprint's network, but you should get a pool of data for comparison. I still believe that Sprint, as a company, does not pick on us randomly and cause the problem. After spending numerous hours with technicians who handle the trouble tickets, I encountered many levels of expertise and knowledge. I still hope that one day I will encounter the right one and get the problem solved. I think some of Sprint's engineering staffs show up here regularly, they are mostly very knowledgeable and helpful. However, it seemed like they cannot do any problem fixing directly. Otherwise, things would be very easy since they really understand the issue down to the fundamental level.
By the way, I heard that Sprint's main fiber hub in our area is in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Do you know whether or not that is true? [text was edited by author 2001-06-07 19:56:15]

| halfzero, why do you think..... a Technician admitted that my data speed was capped to assure the voice quality. However, he refused to do anything about it. What I don't understand is that why they do this only to me? Other people can get full upload speed (700kbps+, but why capping me? It seems to me that there is a big inconsistency at Sprint.
what makes you think that it is only you? what are you basing that on?
did you ever think that the big inconsistency has anything to do with your lines and distance from co, etc.?

If you read my post carefully, the speed test by Sprint's tech was 5.5mb/896kb. I got the down stream ok (or better), but the upstream is lower than half (300kb-400kb). Is that make sense to you?
Needless to say, just read carefully.

| Re: halfzero, why do you think..... oh i know what you said, i can read and yes it makes sense to me. they probably just turned down you max up bit rate if you 1. ever called in about any voice problems. 2. if they were doing proactive monitoring and saw errors on you port or cells being discarded at the DSLAM. you may have spoke with someone who said they turned you up which is not very likely unless you were speaking to the NOC (which is not all that likely) because tier 1 tech support does not have the ability to do that (or shouldn't any way's). is that make sense to you? | |

| Also, just because the tech got 5.5mb/896kb with the sunset tester doesn't mean that's what you are going to get. all that means is that is what your line is capable of, but if you don't want to be bouncing all over the place and you want you the voice part of the service to work, chances are you will need to be turned down somewhat. And let's see if you were turned down, even a little where do you think you will notice the most.......you guessed it, the upload! | |

| Re: halfzero, why do you think..... Since the upper portion of the 1 MHz spectrum of the ADSL is allocated for the downstream, and I have a good download speed, therefore, my line is good. The upstream of the ADSL is in the old POT frequency range ( 5KHz ), therefore, the frequency dependence of the line is less than that of the download portion. From that fundamental fact, I would conclude that my upstream speed would be proportionally better than the downstream as far as the line quality is concerned.
Any attempt to manipulate the "download" speed to gain "upload" is again against Sprint's policy of "no cap". However, since the "upload" uses different frequency spectrum than the "download", I don't think it would improve the upload speed. What do you think, Soamelt?
