| Fast?? Net Fastnet decided in September that they were not going to provide residential service. Why am I writing in December? Because the people at fast net decided not to offer Covad SafetyNet service to the subscribers they were going to cut off...they also decided that rather than notifying the soon to be DSL-less customers, they would just let Covad take the heat when Covad sent the "See you later" message. I spent the better part of 3 days trying to get an answer out of Fastnet as to what reason they had to cut off residential customers....answers ranged from "we're try to concentrate our service in our managed area" to "we're not really cutting residential service, we just changed our web page and havent' put the information back up"...if you buy this BS, make sure you have a dial-up backup, because FastNet might drop you at any time for no reason....BTW, Covad told me fast net didn't want to pay to arrange for the SafetyNet service and that they dropped around 50 subscribers at one time....caveat emptor.. | |

| Re: Fast?? Net I was also a victim of this. The day after Thanksgiving I got a letter saying I would be losing service at the end of the month. Current Fast Net customers, could YOU get service switched in a week? If you could, stick with them.If not, I suggest you switch when your contract is up as they don't seem to care about customers. So, I went through some frantic research and found an ISP I thought I could live with. I called Fast net first thing monday to express my displeasure and was told the letter was sent out in error and I would not be disconnected after all. They said I would be receiving a letter in the mail shortly to this effect. I was told the letter was to be sent if they were not able to reach an agreement with Covad, which they had done. No letter arrived, but midnight Friday came and went and my service was still on so I assumed I had been told correctly about the mix up. I left the house Saturday to do some Christmas shopping, DSL still working. Come home Sat. night and the ATM light is blinking on the modem. I called Fast Net to find out what was going on and was told I was supposed to be disconnected and was. It took almost a month but I got another circuit provisioned and am no longer with Covad. Fast net is simply not acceptable, nor is Covad if they do business with these jokers. I would urge,in the strongest possible terms, current and future Fast Net cutomers to switvh to an ISP that cares about their customers and does not lie. | |
