Which speed check?

What site are you using for your speed test? The Rialto Sprint test site is »speedtest-ria.sprinthome.com/ for a standard SoCal point of comparison. I am at 1500 feet and get 800k up and a max of 5 Mb down (my line checked 7616/896 at the NID, but I have long wire runs to the hub).

By the way, 3Mbits at 12 000 feet is not bad, just the speed of 2 T1's. What is your upload speed?

What operating system? Have you done speed tweaks?

What firewall or NAT router, if any? Most home routers are slower than ION -- and I've found the latest versions of some of the software firewalls slow down things in some ways.

Watch the Sprint ION forum on this site for more speed and tweak discussions.

Re: Which speed check?

My OS Is Win2k And I have Done Tweaks But ears Are Open For Help. My U/L Speed Is About 800kb.

Not Sure If I Have A Firewall(not using any Norton stuff etc) My Router Is C-100 From Sprint Ion
Anon I just got setup last week. The install techs tested my line from the outside box and I was running @ 4.5 Mb down and 1.5 Mb up. Again it was tested inside the house at the point of DMARC (where they placed the DSLAM), I gained an additional 1.5 Mb down, bringing it to 6.0 Mb down, and an additional .5 Mb up, bringing that to 2.0 Mb up. When the tech connected teh DSLAM and then the PC I dropped to 1.5 Mb down at best and anywhere from 112K - 560K up. I ran tweek tester II and there was nothing that I can do to the PC. I am running Win 98 on the macheine. I have a P3 750 Mhz w/ 256 k RAM. I feel that either Sprint is bottlenecking me at the DSLAM or it is a bad DSLAM. does anyone have any suggestions???

Re: Which speed check?

It is unlikely that Sprint is bottlenecking you. See some of the speed discussions in the ION forum at »Sprint ION

The problem could be from a whole variety of issues, from the firewall that you may be running on your PC to wiring problems in your house to net congestion.

What speed test site are you using?

Re: Which speed check?

phrider,

I used the Sprint Rialto speedtester. I do not have any firewalls running. I have cat 5 ran throughout the house; as a matter of fact, I mentioned that I gained 1.5 megs in speed from the test outside the house to the jack that the DSLAM is plugged into. If you think that Sprint is not bottle necking me then they must have a bad DSLAM. What do you think?

Re: Which speed check?

See if you can get the IONSC to open a trouble ticket, although your performance is well above minimum specifications.

I, too, have CAT5 from my NID to the ISH (the ION Sprint HUB -- the DSLAM for SoCal is in Rialto, I think), which is about 100 wire feet. My NID tests 7616/898 on the Sun tester, but the most that I get out of the hub is 5400/800, and usually 5090/700 off the Rialto tester through a Netgear router and software firewall.

Don't base your expectations on the Sun tester -- it seems that is the max possible for the line, not what gets achieved.

Suggestion: we should move this discussion over the the Sprint ION forum at »Sprint ION. You'll get many hands helping you.

Re: Which speed check?

I finally am able to get my speed back. It felt like I was pulling teeth. I have been battleing with Sprint for weeks now. There was a 2 part problem. One, They admitted to me that I was turned down and that they turned me up full 8000/1000. Secondly, the initial installers came back out to check their install. They found some bad connections that they had made. Now I am getting 7Mb down and 825K up. Thank you for your assistance.
