phone sales people don't know crap about DSL

I did the same as you, ordering DSL and phone service in one fell swoop. Your guy sounds like a bigger idiot than the one I talked to. Mine didn't ask what kind of modem I needed. You probably read my review already.. They sent me the USB modem, and I had them send me an ethernet one because I wanted to use a router. I just got the Netgear RT314 and it works great. Seems we have a lot in common.

They should really think about training their phone sales people better if they are going to be selling DSL, or maybe you set up a new phone line.just transfer peeps that want DSL to a special "ordering DSL with phone service" dept.

Note that PacBell DSL has an unfair advantage over other DSL providers because they are able to pitch their product whenever calls to set up a phone line.

Congrats on the good connection.

Response for KEN

Ken ... got your e-mail ...

I have the basic package from Pac Bell. I know that I am lucky to be getting speeds of ~1210 / 108. I can't tell you why I have such a good connection except that the CO is just over 7000 feet away. I am running my connection through a NETGEAR gateway, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. Try running the TWEAK tool here at DSL reports and downloading the setup util "DRTCP019.exe".

Let me take a look

If you would, send me an IM with the DSL # and I'll take a look and get back to you.
